Question. if you are going to go through all of the trouble to import a LHD Challenger because your mustang is taking too long, Why not just import a LHD mustang? Neither will have warranty but the Mustang will share most parts with the RHD version so service and repairs should be easier.
The one thing that would drive me away from Ford would be the service they've provided in return for my deposit. It's been appalling and generally in this situation i'd give someone else a shot. You make a good point about service and repairs however.

The experience of owning a Chrysler will have you back in no time:lol:
I would buy the Camaro before the Dodge, good news is that they will have keyless entry and push button start which alleviates the fear of instant death somewhat.
You could be right. Driven them in the US before and it hasn't been rewarding

Where does the threat of death come from?

If I was going to the trouble of importing, I'd choose the challenger over the mustang. One passed me on the motorway yesterday, they have so much presence and authenticity to the styling that if it is nostalgic muscle car charm you're after, it seems to have more appeal.

Likewise if they sold them here in RHD at a similar price point to the mustang, I'd probably go with the dodge.

All the parts will still come from the USA regardless if its the LHD or RHD Mustang. They wont stock parts for it in the UK, I can guarantee that much.

As stated, I wouldn't buy a LHD Mustang because once imported it costs an absolute fortune, waaay above my budget. One importer I contacted a few months ago kindly provided me with his cost calculator in Excel, and the costs breakdown as such:

USD$ Price of Mustang: ~$40,000
GBPÂŁ Price: ÂŁ26,143
VAT @ 20%: ÂŁ5,228.60
Import Duty @ 10%: ÂŁ2,614.30
Shipping, IVA, trucking, registration, VED, tax etc.: ~ÂŁ2,500
Dealer Cut @ 10%: 2,614.30

Total On The Road Cost: ÂŁ39,100.20

I'm not paying ÂŁ5000 more for the same car with the wheel on the wrong side, even if I could, I can't afford ÂŁ39,000, and if I had that sort of money I'd be buying a Jaguar F-Type.

The Dodge if Imported would come in at around ÂŁ33,800 with the Super Track Pak (not a spelling error) and the cold weather group.

Mustang is still Plan A by a looooong margin. But Plan B will be from the Mopar side of the Muscle Car spectrum.

Maybe we should point the management team at Daimler Chrysler in the direction of this website.

I bet they could whip up a RHD export model of the Challenger and have it delivered to our shores before the Mustangs arrive, and possible for a better price.

I doubt they'd want the grief that goes along with it. Ford is showing all the signs of wishing they'd never bothered. I'd be willing to bet the 6g is the only one we ever see mass produced in RHD.

...........or it could have the opposite result. Ford have factories all around the world that produce left and right hand drive cars on the same production line. Logistics are efficient, spares are available the next day, it all works. The cars are designed from the outset as left and right hand drive; and so was the Mustang. The difference, I think, is the predicted demand. Ford misjudged this as demonstrated by the idea that the orders would be handled by head office. They weren't equipped to cope and the dealers were kept in the dark. Result, a vacuum and void between the dealers and the corporate. This is probably the only major error, although a little more market research wouldn't have gone amiss on both numbers and specification.

For all other products Ford knows pretty much how many it will sell because they replace a similar model. Not so the Mustang. It will be interesting to see how the Edge goes, since that doesn't replace a current model in the RHD range and will be built in Canada. I'd like one of those too, but I'll be waiting until they have one in the showroom.

I think it is more likely Ford will recognise the demand and gear up in future. The only headache they have suffered is that they sold more than expected (which also applies in the US). Some headache.

BTW. Those of us on the forums probably represent 1 or 2% of those who have ordered. Maybe 5% tops. I guess the rest are sitting back in anticipation that their cars will arrive within the predicted 12 months (as they probably will) and will be delighted with the entre process. Who knows?

II was talking about the Camaro having keyless entry and start up like the Mustang. Just Google 'gm ignition' and prepare yourself:D

Talking of F-Type I was watching on Discovery How Things Are Made: Dream Cars and one episode was following the F-Type and interestingly their top spec model Supercharged V8 is only a tad quicker 0-62mph 4.3s than our Mustangs 4.8s, which I was surprised about considering the all aluminium body the F-Type has.

It'll destroy the Mustang in the corners though. That's where its aluminium body will pay dividends: rigid and lighter so its easier and better to chuck around.

So we've seen the Americans get their cars, fair enough being the mustang and all. We've then seen LHD Europeans get their cars followed by the '2016' mustangs being delivered state side. Now the first GT350's have started turning up at US dealers. I think this RHD milarky is an epic transatlantic prank and their just seeing how long it'll take us all to twig.

Mounting a Mustang

From ancient times, all horses including Mustangs were mounted from the left.:eyebulge: LHD seems natural in a Mustang I guess. Ford should not promise too much.:frusty: I guess it's always been easier to do marketing and PR than it is to do engineering and production.:tsk: I do hope Ford speeds up delivery to you.
