I recently sold my 2008 GT500 for a Ruby Red 2017 (chassis number 2519). The car was a well taken care of one owner with 7k miles. I spoke with the original owner and he told me he has used Amsoil 5w-50 and the car has not used oil. The dealership changed the oil and used Motorcraft but I think I will switch it back to Amsoil in the Spring, However I had a question about the oil consumption issue that seems to be impacted many.

It seems that many, many of these 5.2 engines are drinking oil and some are being replaced. Has anyone ever determined the cause of the excess consumption? It seems as if someone would have some insight into why they are drinking oil. Also, for those who had their engines replaced did the consumption stop?

I appreciate the opportunity to ask this and hope I am not digging old questions up.

I've read some comments about valve sealing issues, but Ford seems to be so closed mouth that I'm not sure anyone really knows for sure. Also heard discussion about defective oil pumps but that deals more with the subject of mechanical failure.

I was wondering if anyone with a large consuming engine has ever pulled a spark plug to see what it looks like. With consumption like that you would they would produce a lot of blue smoke.

Very interesting stuff

No smoke, however premature failure of the cats down the road
My old GT 500 had 02 sensors both before and after the Cats and I think the 5.2 does as well. With the amount of oil some people are talking about I can not see why the pre cat sensors don’t foul
