Oil Temp Problems - Cold Weather

I blocked off the entire oil radiator. After 20 min of driving oil temp is at 153. So this is not going to work.

Cruise in a lower gear if you want to get the temps up faster/in colder weather. Yes it will cost you in fuel economy, but if you’re dailying a gt350 in the winter you likely aren’t concerned with being economical.

might want to tape the hood vent as that will help keep heat in if you are taping things up.

I just bought a 2018 and was surprised at what seems to be a lack of thermostat in the trans cooler (<80F for 120 miles home on trans temps, mostly 5th and 6th gear cruising). The cold trans temps seem to make shifting notchy for me until the transmission gets up to some temperature, typically at least 80F.
With the cold snap here in SC for the next week and was really hating the thought of not driving it just because of the cold, but tried taping up just the oil cooler and trans cooler openings. (Note: I see no reason to tape on the radiator at all as it is thermostatically controlled very well from what I can tell).
I just did a short 12 mi round trip drive to the grocery store and very noticeable and positive change in temps. I started dead cold in my garage (50F in the garage and outside temps of 40F) and instead of the normal max of 160F oil and ~70F trans temps I got to 180F oil and 115F trans temps by the time I got home. This made the shifting feel much better quickly with the increased transmission temps and nice to see the oil get to "normal" temperatures much quicker as well.
Love that this car is "track ready" so I guess taping her up like a NASCAR stock car for qualifying is a small price to pay to get some temps up during the ultra rare South Carolina cold snaps.

Depending on what your overnight temps are, you may want to look into a quality 0w oil instead of 5w to run in the winter. It may help with cold start protection since you aren't driving hard like you would in the spring/summer/fall.

My car is in the garage which is very well insulated and temps never go below 65F. As a result my starting oil temp is never below 77.

Cooler oil temperature never killed anything. Overheating on the other hand.
My RX-8 had TWO oil coolers and they are wide open even in the winter.
Plus I am pretty sure these coolers have thermostat anyway.

I'm not a mechanic but your logic sounds reasonable. I'd think Ford would have some sort of protection mode incorporated to prevent any damage to the engine from oil becoming to cold. Theres nothing in the supplement saying you can't drive the car no matter how cold it gets. Only that they don't recommend driving the GT 350 (not talking about the R) tires below 45 degrees due to safety since they are summer tires. Also I see your in Omaha I'm 71 now but went through grade school and high school in Council bluffs so definitely know what cold and snow is like up there. Remember having to walk 19 blocks each way to high school every day no matter how cold.

Been to 4 stores and no one sells black masking tape. I m afraid to use duct tape, anyone have experience with duct tape? It usually leaves a big mess behind.

I used clear packing tape on mine when I was trying to get my trans temp up in 40 degree weather. It works fine and it's clear and it doesn't leave residue when you take it off.

IMO you should use black Scotch brand electrical tape like MAV recommended earlier in this thread when you asked what he did. I'm not sure why you would ask the question and then ignore the answer?

Duct tape will leave a mess and masking tape won't hold up.

Because I tried electrical tape, it falls off and will not hold up. Could be due to extreme cold not sure. Plus its so small and surface area so big.
