Oil separator problem

First of all I put the upr plug and play sc oil separator on my car at around 200 miles. All was well for a long like(thousands of miles). Then at around 10k miles I noticed whenever I drove aggressively my car made a nasty smell. For awhile I thought it was my aftermarket exhaust. But after being fed up with the smell all the time I tried going back to the factory tube that the oil separator replaces and voila the smell stopped. WOT with no smells. The catch can was still catching a lot of oil. Which makes me wish I didn't have to take of the separator because now all that oil is gunking up my engine. Has anyone else noticed this? Or possibly know why this is happening?

There are a lot of post as the other S V T forum about Oil separators. You want to take care of the smell and actually catch some oil? Get a Bobs Oil separator. I did they look great and work way better than any other on the market.

The problem is in the design with both tubes being on the top what happens is at WOT and boost the oil jsut bypasses the media that is designed to let the oil condensate so its just going back into your intake.

What type of smell is it? The exhaust will get a sort of fart smell at WOT because the cats can't keep up. From the can it will be more oily (and you might notice a bit of smoke coming from your hood). Check around your engine, especially under all the piping and where the can sits to see if there's any oil residue.

IIRC the UPR is a direct-connect that hangs in mid-air from the PCV valves? I don't trust things like that, you might want to check the hoses for any visible cracks/stress (plastic hoses like that will get a whitish coloration where there is any visible stretching). Not sure how it's clamped, might want to tighten them up if possible. At worst, fully replace the hoses and hard-mount that thing somewhere.

I'm not sure if a small leak would register on the car's gauges? If it's just WOT it's probably forcing air out somewhere due to the extra pressure.

Thank you! I hate that, and I wish the majority of the oil separator systems available weren't like this.

I custom built a dual Moroso system on my Evo X and it worked great, I was really happy with the Moroso cans they are well built. They make a bolt-in system for the Mustang too. But I think I will go with the Bobs Ultimate because I don't want to custom build any more AN hoses. Ugh.

I wouldn't mind it as much if the hard-points were metal, but the PCV plugs themselves seem like they're made out of cheapo plastic and aren't exactly...firm. I doubt many folks have had issues, but I'd rather not have any weight hanging on those things, especially doing any spirited driving on sub-par roads.

have you emptied the catch can? Sounds like it might be overflowing?

FWIW, the Ford Performance catch can is a nice part.
