I like to disassemble things.
I bought a handful and changed them with each oil change. Good idea to always have one in the glovebox too. You never know...

Agree, they are cheap enough both in cost and durability, changing every time u do the oil the best medicine

I'm at the dealership now. It's the drain plug, got to look at it on the lift. They are going to replace it. I told them to change the oil. He didn't want to do it, he just wanted to add oil. I told him I don't want you to guess how much to put back in. That's when I said let's talk to the manager. We discussed it with the manager and he said I don't blame you. He told the guy go fix it. He said do I claim this as a warranty claim and the manager said just bring it to me.

I don't see it listed as a separate part number so most likely, they expect you to replace the drain plug...but they are cheap at Tasca.
Thank you, just bought 6 for under $20 delivered

FT4Z6730A is the plug P/N. $1.90 each at Tasca.
I think I paid about $2.39 at my rip off Ford dealer out here...but I bought all they had in stock...I think about 4 of them. Its such a bizarre part I can't see not changing it every oil change.

I plan to buy 5 or 6 plugs, but in my opinion it's ridiculous you need to replace the drain plug every oil change even though it's inexpensive. Seems like a design problem to me, either with the o ring or the plug. Just another quirk about this car that you have to know and pay attention to. Don't get me wrong love the car, but not happy with the issues so far within 1200 miles.

I am not sure I agree with you. A part can be designed as a one time use part. The problem here as far as I can tell is that Ford does not treat it as such. On my first oil change I looked at the condition of the plug that came out (specifically the rubber o-ring). It was significantly compressed and was not coming back vs a new one. That plus my experience with other brands that actually include this type of plug in the oil change kit made me just consider the whole thing a one time use part. Ford should have recommended that IMO.

This is my first performance car so I'm not aware of vehicles recommending replacing the drain plug. Cars I've owned the plug last the life of the car. If it's common in other performance cars then Ford really needs to recommend replacing it every oil change if it only good for one insertion.

Every OEM oil filter for BMW has a kit of O-rings and a copper washer. The O-rings go in the cartridge filter and the washer goes on the drain plug. Ford could do the same - a new o-ring for the plug or a whole new plug for that matter. It's not unusual.

You don't need to replace them every change. You should, however, do two things. They are intolerant of debris so you must clean all residue, sludge, etc. out of the pan opening until its is dry and clean.
It also helps to remove the o ring and roll it around and clean the plug channel. They can get subtle flat spots.
That said, they should be good for 2-3 changes at a minimum.

So more than likely it was debris from the first oil change that was on the o ring. I'm still going to buy a handful since they are so cheap. I can't rely the dealer to clean the o ring.

Anytime you remove the plug, whether you reuse it or replace the O-ring or replace the entire plug, you should coat the plug and the inner liner with silicone grease. Even a new ring will not seal if there’s any kind of damage or scratches on the ID of the bore, be careful of that .
