Oil filter cover removal

Has anyone just ripped this thing off and left it off? Does it serve any purpose other than getting oil drops places they don’t belong?

I’m just going to do the same with this shield for now. I just can’t see a reason why they put it there.

Yes, both the base R and the Electronics pack R. Classics. I agree, the 500 is a beast on the track, blows the R's out of the water on a fast track.
