Yes I know. I have 2 Rs. I just did an oil change on all 3 vehicles. I share in people's frustration.

I will say this, the FL2016 did just fine in the R models before the FL2087 came along, and that was under heavy track use. So why the FL 2087? I would guess that the Ford engineers had to dumb it down to the lowest common denominator and produce a crush resistant filter for all the tards who couldn't follow directions.

So, what does this mean? I would suggest that just as the chairman said, you'd be fine with an alternative filter. Should the engine fail and if Ford can play pin the tail on the oil filter if your engine takes a dump? Well, then you own it.
Agreed. I get the benefits of synthetic media. But the entire Shelby (licensed) community now is convinced if they don't use the 2087, there's a risk of filter collapse. So one guy had his filter deform and now everyone is searching for these things like a Playstation 5.

The improvements in pressure are confirmed and documented, but I suspect that can be achieved with any number of premium full synthetic alternatives.

I honestly think the risk of a collapsed filter is less than the risk of a broken crank snout.

And I've "owned" the risk since the moment I bought the car. I don't put much faith in warranties:)

By the way, interesting story. I ordered 4 filters from Lakeland Ford back in mid December. Called them between Christmas and NYE to see what's what, told me they'll email me when it's ready for pickup. Called them last week and the parts rep tells me they're cancelling my order because they placed the order on 27 December but still didn't have a future ship date and they're on backorder indefinitely.

As you indicated, I now think Dealers are once again, screwing customers and hoarding whatever supplies they can get their hands on.

May I suggest if this is a concern to change the oil and not the filter. This supply chain issue will pass.

Maybe also suggest that it is not critical to change the oil on an annual basis as long as the oil is serviceable. I recentlybhad an oil analysis that suggested that the oil is not required to be changed on a specific interval. If changing oil and not the filter is unacceptable, may I recommend you send a sample to Blackstone labs to an oil analysis? This way you would be covered should anything happen to the engine.
