So my car is a 2015 mustang gt perf pack. Has about 4800 miles. My oil change is due soon and shows oil life 10% remaining. This will be my first oil change. I bought Castrol edge titanium full synthetic 5w-20 with purolator boss oil filter. Just wanted any feedback of running full synthetic on this car. Do most people run fully synthetic or mix synthetic? And is there any pro or con to each? Ended up spending 69$ on autozone for 10 qt and the filter (on sale)

Thanks

I run full synthetic, only. On my previous Mustang, and all cars before that, I ran Mobil 1, but I stepped up to Amsoil. For the extra $30, it's well worth it. In my opinion, full synthetic is the only way to go, especially on these engines with very tight tolerances.

Motorcraft's synthetic blend is a popular choice.
Many will recommend a full synthetic oil.

I personally prefer a full synthetic oil (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-20).

Here is an oil thread with the opinions your seeking...

* moderators will probably move this thread to the "Mechanical maintenance and Servicing" section.

I just did my first oil change at 3000 miles. I use royal purple 5w 20 full synthetic. I was going to run amsoil but the royal purple performed better hp and wear wise in the tests i watched.
heres an interesting video to watch about the wear.

Also the hp numbers between different oils is amazing
heres another viddeo to check out

Basically from last place to first place there was a 15hp difference which is more than some of us get with and intake and exhaust lol

5W30 motor oil gives MUCH better protection for your engine over 5W20,the auto makers use 5W20 so they can eek out a bit more MPG,but it does NOT offer the best protection.

I only use Red Line, it is one of the few PAO oils out there. My car is not a daily driver, so the extra expense is not big deal for the few time a year I change it.

Oh, if you're concerned about your oil use, and what your change interval should be, get a UOA kit from Blackstone labs. For $26 or something, you get a full test of the oil, and you can make a determination on how well its holding up over time. I've never done one, but with this car, I'm going to start, since Charleston gets hot, to say the least.
