Oil change frequency

At how many miles does everyone change their oil? What oil do you all use. Do it yourself? Let’s hear about it.

I did my first one at 2850 miles. I was going to wait until 4K but I went on a long trip and it would have gone over so I changed it sooner. Going forward I will change it every 5K or twice a year, whichever comes first.

I change my own oil- have been doing so for over 40 years. The oil in the GT was super easy to change- the drain plug being like a hand wing nut with an O Ring makes it so easy- no wrench even needed. I use 5W-20 Motorcraft oil and Motorcraft filter. I buy everything at Wal Mart as 10 quarts of oil and filter can be expensive if not on sale or at a typical parts store.

I use the factory recommended oil and I change it more often than recommended. Often I will change oil after a track day if the oil already has a couple thousand miles on it. My interval is typically a little over 3,000 miles. Sometimes I change it myself and sometimes I have a dealer do it. I trust my local dealer to change the oil. I usually bring in the oil and filter because they don't always have it available and their price is pretty good for a change in those circumstances.

5k Miles, Mobil 1 Synthetic and I do it myself.


I did have the dealer do it twice but they gave me a hard time about my request for full synthetic saying I don’t need it and the mechanic didn’t put enough oil in it both times shy 1 quart. It took an hour to get there both ways and I had to wait an hour and a half to get it done so 2 and half hours. It takes only 15 minutes to do it myself.

eitherway i change mine about every 5-6k miles or twice a year, whichever comes first.use the motorcraft oil filter and pennzoil ultra plat 5w-20

I go to TD performance. Cause I know a guy who works here. They use full synth valvoline. I’m cool with that
