Question: The oil cap says 5-20 and the manual says 5-30. Who is right?

Thanks

EDIT: My bad. I was reading the other engines in the manual. It is 5-20 on both the cap an the manual

5w-20 is correct however I'd go with 5w-30

Upside is better protection, downside is slightly less mpg and longer warm up times.

I'd even consider 5W -40 (like Liquimoly) - but I wanted a few more opinions. The NA engine can run hot once you rev it a lot (like on track) - the 7000 rpm redline is no joke.
5W-20 is too low for extended sessions, look at the cylinder head temps at WOT to see what I'm talking about.

The BMW I owned required 10W-60, and it revved till 8200 rpm.

I'd go with the 5W-20 for the V6 and V8, unless you want a voided warranty.

Most of us old folks probably think 20W-50 would be even better, since that was the hot setup when we were in high school. Oil has changes a LOT. Viscosity is not the same as film toughness, which is what you are really concerned about. So long as the oil will stick to bearing surfaces and prevent metal-to-metal contact, thinner is better. It used to be that only thicker oils would stand up. Not true any longer. Petroleum engineering, making life better for fun and profit.

And use real natural oil, not fake synthetic oil. Much like fake "cheese product" instead of real cheese, the synthetic will never be as good as the real thing.
