SO I am wondering, with the work that yall have put into this does it have to come from that one guy that seems to be a pita to work with or is there an overlay that is applied to it that rewrites it anyway.

Who's the guy that is a PITA to work with? I'm not sure what you're asking. The recovery? It can come from anyone who knows enough about Android, and the unit/hardware, with the knowledge to create a recovery image for it, and somehow figure out how to get the unit to actually BOOT to the recovery.

PatrickHenninger is correct. We just need to figure out a way to get in that recovery. The recovery is already present in the HU. The problem is that this HU doesn't have the same physical buttons as your smartphone/tablet. To get into recovery mode you usually have to press PWR + Vol Down and your phone will take you to the recovery mode. Like I said, This HU doesn't have physical PWR and Vol Down. All the buttons that you see on the HU (SWC included) Android considers them as "Softkey"...

I'm not sure there is a recovery partition.

easy way to test that is to use an app that boots to recovery mode.

When I opened the image I saw a recovery img. If you use an app it'll go into recovery with a "No Command" (This is a well known issue on some Android devices. However, this doesn't mean there's no recovery. It just means that it's waiting for you to send a cmd. The way to get in is to press PWR + vol up + vol down at once and it'll show you the recovery options)

I've read some threads on other devices about plugging in a USB Keyboard, and holding ALT+PrtScr+I while booting to interrupt boot for Recovery, but it didn't work when I tried it. If I had a dedicated test bench, and an additional screen, it would be a lot easier to test. Once the premium cables start showing up, we'll know which pins on the back of the unit are unused for car installation, and should be able to narrow that down.

Does anyone have a good pic of the back of a host with all the wires connected?

Isn't that like a week from now? I'm not that patient, I'll be tinkering the whole time. If I could figure out how to power on the host without the screen attached, it'd be easier.

So, I've been emailing some more and there is no solution for the single USB cable problem. Our options would be:

1. Only connect one of the two USB cables from the base cable set, resulting in one non-functioning USB port
2. He will send me a cable that has two female USB connections that go into the unit with the brown connector. This gives two usable connections, but you obviously can't get the armrest connection to work
