So just did a mode 6 log with Forscan.

No changes - still misfiring. Almost all at idle.

Interesting that it's the same cylinders as before the plug change. So... is that pointing to the coils then? I can hear the misfires through the exhaust at idle with little "pops". Watching the lap top - hear a pop and watch the misfire count go up.

Any benefit to going to with an aftermarket high performance set? My build date is 03/16 so I believe I fall into the later 16-17 range as far as replacements I know the 15 to early 16 are different than the later 16-17.

Any one benefit from "better" coils?

Thanks!

What is tricky is if it truly is multiple cylinder misfire and multiple coil packs are bad then you can’t really easily swap to find out.

Maybe keep swapping and see if you can find a pattern idk.
Yup...this is what made it so tricky to isolate the issues I was having with my 2011 to the ignition coils. Replacing the coils is the last thing I tried because I didn't want to spend the $ on new ones unless absolutely necessary. It was relieving but frustrating how simple, but costly, of a fix it was after chasing it for months. At least my spark plugs are new and my fuel system is squeaky clean now :cwl:

That is exactly my thoughts!!

What coils did you go with?

Funny though, no cels so the car doesn’t even know it has a problem!

General consensus I came to find after researching to replace mine is to stick with OEM.

I never got a CEL light as well. I went with OEM Ford Performance coils.

As you are experiencing now, I literally almost went insane chasing this issue and one other thing I learned through obsessive research is that a CEL generally only activates once a certain percentage of misfires is detected. I also learned that coil "failures" can be dynamic partial failures...for example, a coil might operate fine until it reaches a certain temperature or rpm range, and then revert to operating normal.

The only other thing, as others suggested, to try before now coils would be to make sure all of your electrical connections are good, snug and not intermittently shorting out/disconnecting. I hate electrical work and admittedly, skipped that step.

Thanks.

Yea, I’ve checked every connection for the coils and injectors and all confirmed good.

Almost all of my misfires are at idle when the least amount of stress is on the motor. I still have the off idle hesitation but I’m thinking now that I have 2 separate issues. Originally I was looking for a fix for off idle issue and then just stumbled onto the misfires. I want to clear up the misfire issue before tackling the hesitation problem. I’m hoping when the misfires are fixed it helps somewhat with the hesitation. At least I’ll have done all the problem solving and know where I stand mechanically. Then I can go back to the tuner and see if they can dial in the off idle issue.

Here you go. FYI, it wasn't the spark or coils

Thanks for the video! What was the verdict on what it was? What was tool you used to record that? Scanner? I think that would be a better way that my laptop.

Please let me know.

Much appreciated!!!

Thank you

I have changed tuner and still in revisions with my current tuner who is doing fine yet I still have the hiccup when the car reached 1400 - 1900 rpm on neutral or while driving. Car has an Odin with 1/7/8 kooks and few other mods. it pulls insane but the hiccups at low speed are what making us lose it all! VMP asked me to return the TB and try a replacement so I asked my tuner to see if he agrees on that as out last bid!

I switched the 1&2 coils and did another mode 6. 1 is still the worst and nothing changed from previous scan. Did another crank relearn and no changes at all.

So I think if it was the coil, I would have seen a change but it didn’t follow the coil.

@downtoearth1986 may be on to something with the VCT solenoids. Any way to test them?

Thanks again!

I’m dealing with vct issues myself, at the moment. If you have vcmscanner you can log vct mode, commanded angle, actual cam angle, and solenoid duty cycle for all cams.
