I was stuck in stop and go traffic in LA today. 2020 GT Premium PP1, Whipple gen 5. My temp crept up to 231, which I don't like considering I have a Dewitt's 2 row rad that is twice as big as the PP1 rad. In any event, once traffic started to move, the engine started stumbling, and wouldn't go. It was tripping all over itself. Every time I hit the throttle it acted like it wanted to die and wasn't getting enough fuel. I feathered the throttle, but the stumble continued. Finally, I used the paddle shifters to keep it in 2nd gear (A10) and it finally built revs and I was able to get it going. It wasn't until the temp dropped to about 222-225 before it cleaned up and started running right. Anyone experienced anything like this?

Also, what temp should the fans come on full speed? I couldn't hear the fans running, which I would expect if they were full beans? I've had the hood up when the engine was at temp and the low speed came on, but I have never heard high fans...unless they are that stealth?

The fans are in the tune. They will come on whatever temp your tuner has them set at. As far as the limp mode, it was probably a fail safe with the temps rising. Do you have a 170 degree thermostat? If not, get one. Contact your tuner about the fans not coming on timely..

231 is not very high. it is higher than I would like it in stop and go traffic. But did you have the a/c on? if you were beating on it or HAVE THE A/C ON its not to high. I would go out and block my radiator start it up and see if my radiator fans turn on. Also make sure you don’t have an air bubble in your cooling system. You could have a damaged wire, fuse, relay, I wouldn’t jump straight to say it’s the tune.

It is running Whipple tune right now. I had climate on auto, and it was only 64 degrees out, so I don’t think the a/c was working too hard. I’m going to look into the fans. I’m not convinced they are going high when needed. If Whipple does have a fail safe programmed at 230+ it’s dangerous. It took a few tries to get going, and in LA traffic that is no bueno!

There are numerous versions of the Whipple cal, but the one I’m looking at didn’t have the fan coming on 100% until 228 deg f, I believe for emissions reasons.

I don’t think it was in FMEM (limp) mode unless the CEL was triggered, so I think something other than ECT or FMEM caused it. Sounds almost like vapor lock but that is unlikely.
