@K4fxd , let me see if i can clarify

Driver side switch cluster doesnt work the driver side window. However it does work passenger side window.
When I took the door panel off and removed the harness to the motor, water came out.

With the harness connected back to the motor:
If I use my light probe with aligator clip attached a nut in the door jamb , and touch pin 20, and also trigger the driver window switch, the window goes up.
If I touch pin 19 , while light probe is connected to nut in door jamb and i push the switch down, the window goes down.

I i remove the aligator clip from the nut in the door jamb, and try to trigger either up or down, the window does nothing.

Note, when I open the door, it also does the quarter inch drop so it clears the rain gaurd.

I not sure what other test I can do to identify where the actual issue is.
Is it possible the motor has a ground problem internally?
What tests can i do on the switch and other end of the harness to determine if the switch is the issue?
Im willing to try anything, I can follow instructions pretty good (at least my wife says I do)

Thank you for the help, i had posted my own post and on another forum and everyone viewed but no responses.
So I thank you very much for at least responding.
Regards

I think you are at a time to throw parts at it. I don't have a service manual to look at.

It is missing a ground. I don't know if that ground is in the switch or the motor.

The motor is relatively cheap if you can change it yourself. The fact your plug was filled with water tells me you will need to replace it sooner or later so you really can't waste any money here.

The only test I can think of for the switch is to see if pins 19 and 20 are connected to the common ground for the switch assembly. If they are hot, does your light light up when you touch the pins? even without pressing the switch? If so check the switch itself.

Good luck

The only pin that lights up when I touch a grounded probe to it without triggering the switch is pin 10 (10 brown/yellow). As soon as I put the probe on that pin and do nothing else the light on probe activates.

Otherwise, pin 19 and 20 require phycallys pressing the switch to get probe light to come on..

I do appreciate you giving it some thought, u are right in the fact it prbly will need replaced sooner or later anyway..

Thanks for the efforts, I do appreciate it

This tells me it is a ground problem. The puzzle is why does the motor work when you touch the test light to the pins and activate the switch. This leads me to believe the missing ground is between the pin and the main ground and not the motor.

try jumping pins 19 and 20 to the main ground pin from the switch assembly, if this fixes it you know it is a bad assembly. I'd replace the assembly or just solder the jumpers in.

When you do figure it out please post the answer.

Thanks.

Update, well, on my way over to my sisters, i hit the driver side window button. nothing, then hit it again and the window went down.
It seems that I am experiencing the 1 - 1.5 second button press, then release and immediately press again and the window does the requested action, either up or down.

I have not had a chance yet to ground pin 19 or 20 to the ground wire on the switch yet. Will try and do that this week. Will update as more info is available.

Regards

Did you ever fix it?

My drivers window on a coupe only works on the switch sometimes…. Other times the switch won’t work. The auto drop and raise when you open/close the door works fine.

I have taken the door apart and found the connector was full of water. No obvious corrosion. Cleaned with compressed air and contact cleaner. But no improvement.
I am assuming the water shorting has damaged the motor but when it does work the motor raises the window nice and smoothly…. I have a used motor on the way to try a swap.

Mines doing this now too. I tried the dielectric grease too no avail. Then pulled the switch apart convinced it must be the switch seeing as the auto drop and raise with the door opening and closing still works along with the global opening from the fob. My idea was to try and swap the switches over to see if I could replicate the problem on the other window, but I've fucked the switch up and butchered it trying to open it. I'll be ordering and fitting a new one tomorrow and I'll keep digging for answers.

You need to change the window motor. The water shorts out the control board inside the motor. Sometimes the grease works.

The proper fix is to replace the motor and then add the grease to the plug. This is a permanent fix.

So I've ordered the parts that arrive on Monday. I'll update the thread then with the outcome.

Of note, the window motor from ford is ÂŁ192. However, rockauto have the part for ÂŁ58. The part number is shown as FR3Z7823394A which is different from the UK part number. While in the parts dept I gave them that number and it came up with the same part, still for ÂŁ192. So if it all turns out to be the motor, I'd recommend people order the part from rockauto and have it shipped over to save some money.

Night fogged brain,.

There is one other possibility. There is a sensor in the door that sometimes goes bad.

When you first added grease to the plug was there water in it?
If so did you dry it out before adding the dielectric grease?

If that plug was dry it could need a door sensor. If it was wet it needs the motor even if it hasn't failed yet.

Yeah, there was water in the plug. From what I've read when it's the door sensor, the window drops and raises randomly as if the door were opening and closing. I don't get that issue, I just get the inoperable door switch.

Yeah, there was water in the plug
The random up and down is caused by the water also. If you have a test light see if you are getting power when you operate the switch. You could have other issues.

The switch sends a signal to the BCM then it activates the window motor.

Please update when you do fix it.
