I have MPS4 on the rear and plenty of grip back there. I'd argue that Michelins though more expensive than others, do grip better in terms of outright grip and feedback but also they are consistent with that grip til they hit the wear strips. Some tyres are cheaper grip fine but then halfway through their tyre life turn all very TDF (Taiwanese Ditch finders © JDM life yo!) Have heard good things about the Conti tyres but not used them. Kumho's KU range get good reviews but i had them all round on mine when i got it and tbh they didn't feel that great. Rears got replaced with the PS4 (not the 4S ) and the fronts needing replaced now i reckon will go PS4 (not 4S ) if i can get them (otherwise i'm back asking questions like OP :giggle: )

interesting; thanks!

what life have yours had?

keep 'em coming.
good. how many miles have you got out of the MPS4S and how far through their life are they, would you say?
Got 52.000km out of my factory Michelin PS4S. this included ~20 light rounds (09m:20s) around the Nurburgring. Try 'em out, they're great.
I have over 12k on my MPS4S and there's still plenty of rear tread.

I believe they come with 9.5mm on them from new ? If so, mine won’t see 10k …

cheers, i'll put that into the choice mix. But with variable summers here "summer only" won't work for me.

Yes i have noted that Pirelli tyres crack in numerous places.

I guess I'm an outlier due to my usage (second car / all 'fun' miles / no sat cruising at 70 etc) so I wouldn't take my experience to be the norm :like:

Having said that, I'm not sure how the guy above got 32k miles out of a set, including 3+ hours going round the ring

I think in the states they offer a 30k miles tread warranty, but I'm not sure what level they allow it to go down to (wear bars ?) and I think they half that for cars were you can't rotate the tyres (most mustangs with a staggered setup) :like:

I forgot to measure them today, but I measured them at like 11k miles and I believe the rears had like 5.5mm depth. I have never ever used line-lock. I did a few standing Drag mode starts. Other than that, just lots of pulls, which you guys have all seen in my videos. There's no way I'll make 30k miles on the rears. Could I make 18k, I suppose so.

For me, the second the PSS5's come out with 19-inch sizes, I'm going to replace all four anyway.

I'm going to be the outlier here and go for Hankook A rated mpg BUT the credit card payment system has just failed!! might be a lucky escape???

Really not a fan of hancooks or Goodyears although I’m sure they’ve come a long way, handbook tread blocks are hard as hell with poor grip, Goodyears have very soft sidewalls.
Tyres made for economy on a Mustang :giggle:

Interestingly there was a Mustang owner on the black-circles site reviewing the hankooks who was very happy - he even put a photo up.

I spoke to Blackcircles trade tech assistance dept as to the ratings and was assured they are all measured correctly and consistently so the hardness (like for like) that you feel must occur after testing?

As for economy, would anyone prefer tyres advertised as "definitely less economical"? Like I said originally, there's nothing to stop us wanting an "all round" tyre, even if grip and rolling resistance are inversely proportional. What I don't want is to have to spend time every year wasting time and money getting another set of four AND forking out more £ at the pump on top.

Well, yes, I buy tyres for price, rim protection, feel and grip in no particular order, I have zero interest in harder long lasting tyres at all.
Even my van, I had a blowout and all I could get was two hancooks, broke my heart, they’re terrible in the wet lol

Buying tyres for a Mustang based on mileage you get from them is a bit left field. Buy tyres for grip and feeling and remember tyres are cheaper than bodywork. Obv imho

You weren't the person with a Transit complaining about the tread life on another hankook tyre were you? there was one.

Rim protection: I wish I had thought of that as a factor because the Pirelli's have actually helped with that due to the shape of a projecting section.

We'll have to see how the Tony Hancock tyres perform in the wet and against the mpg/tankfull records.
