Last October, I bought my Bullitt with a little over 18k miles.
Looked at the tires today and they were made last year. Why would
the tires be changed with such low mileage, and yes all 4 of the tires
were made in '23.
Most OEM tires no matter what brand have a very short life. I'd say by 15K miles they were done and dealer or private seller bought them to get car sold.
As mentioned previously, wear. But I can think of two additional factors:
- When researching winter storage, Michelin's comments say that hot and humid (see Houston) conditions take a greater toll on tires and their integrity when resting than cold
- Previously, when discussing how old a tire can be before needing replacement, the thread's consensus was 5-6 years as being the limit, regardless of mileage
I only run my PS 4Ss 6 months a season because its my daily and I live in Chicago. I have 44k on my car so about 22k on the tires and the rears definitely need replacing. The fronts still have decent tread but are getting worn inside from the toe that Ford sets in the front. I drive pretty spirited but no track days or anything. So I don't necessarily think it was abuse. Especially if they were run all year around. Also if they get really cold they can crack and would need replaced also. Hope this helps.
