New Mustang owner

Hi Everyone,

I just picked up a 2017 Mustang GT in Lightning Blue. It's my first Ford. I've been a long time GM owner, and I still have a 95 Trans Am in the garage. However, I traded in a 13 Hyundai Genesis Coupe 2.0T for the GT, which I had owned for a little over 2 years. My intentions were to get an 18 EB with the PP option, but after driving both the A10 and 6 speed, I was disappointed in the cars. My Genesis had a fair amount of work done to it, so it wasn't really fair comparing them to stock Ecoboosts, but I couldn't bring myself to pulling the trigger on one. Another dealer not far from that one had a used 17 GT on the lot, and I took it out for a test drive. I knew right away I wanted it. I've always had a soft spot for the S550 since it came out in 14, and I'm very happy now that I own one. The car is stock, and will probably be that way for a bit until I can sell the Trans Am.

Congrats! Enjoy the new ride and welcome to the Mustang world. I recently bought the 3rd Mustang I’ve had after almost 10 years out of performance oriented cars. These cars are an amazing leap compared to my last one, a 2001 GT.

Prior 2011 Genesis 2.0T owner here (bought it new) - actually still a member over on the GenCoupe forum. They are great and totally reliable sports coupes that handle awesome in stock form. I traded my gencoupe in on my prior 2016 S550 - that 2.0T had over 80k on it when I traded it in; the only time it was ever at the Dealer was for the oil changes. Replaced the brakes 1x and tires, that was it for any maintenance... great car and a shame Hyundai stopped manufacturing them.

Congrats on the S550, you’re gonna really enjoy modding it (the aftermarket is huge and bigger than anything you could imagine for the gencoupe).

Ha! First time Ford owner as well (2017 Mustang GT). I too come from the Pontiac world, having owned 78 and 89 Trans Ams previously.

I could only imagine what a modern Firebird would have been like, but the Mustang, specifically since 2015 model, is a great Grand Tourer, as the Trans Ams were as well, so I feel right in home in it. Reminds me a lot of my 1978 in terms of the experience it provides me.

He was talking about the S550 platform debuting in 2014... Which it did.

I don't like the body style of my '17; however the car never ceases to amaze with it's power
and handling. (wish I'd gotten a '14 GT)

I was a Trans Am owner for thirty years, Always liked those cars; although lacking in the horsepower dept.

Back in '88, I went to the Pontiac dealer to order a new T/A and the salesman says he'd just taken in a trade
of a '88 Trans Am GTA. An older gent had bought it but him and his bride couldn't ride in it. (they were around 70ish)
Anyway, he said he'd drive first to show me how the car would perform. Told my wife to get in the right seat, me in back.
Well, we "peel out" of the dealership lot; next thing I knew were doing 100 mph.
He jams on the brakes and swerves the car in a turn, floors it like a bootlegger and peels out again.
My wife is having the time of her life; hanging on and laughing.
Back to the dealership and he says; 'now take it for a test drive.'
The car had a 350 tuned multi port fuel injection engine.
