Flash...ALL 2018 cars will have to be equipped with automatic anti-collision braking systems! NTSB says that having the system will cut rear end collisions by at least 40%.

They remind me of my cousin who refused to wear a seat belt because she wanted to be thrown out of a car if there was an accident "so she wouldn't be trapped if the car caught on fire!"

This to me is more about forced purchase and may lead to more collisions in the event of system failure and people not using the break pedal because the car is supposed to stop automatically.

Forward Collision Warning / ACC is a $1200 option. I would have bought that if they didn't bundle it with the Premium.

Even for people shopping Premium, most cars sitting on the dealer lots did not have that option. That would have been custom order.

personally, i dont want my car to do ANYTHING for me besides what i tell it to do. however, if mandatory, i would not mind if i have the option to turn off(fully turn off, not partially off like these asshat nannies our cars have) in factory trim, without a tuner.

so, how will this effect my car when i am open tracking, fly up on some dudes ass before a corner and get right up on his bumper? will my car understand im overtaking a car and not about to punt his rear bumper?

This is total mis-information... this is by 2022 and it is not mandated, this is a collection of automakers that agreed to do it. The NHTSA will implement a framework to evaluate and grade the systems by 2018.

Nothing wrong with the system really. It's not gonna affect your driving mostly if you drive sensibly. It's only gonna be beneficial for those who don't know how to drive.

I have had two rear end collisions in the last ten years that could have been prevented if the idiots who hit me had had anti-collision systems.
Both times I was legally stopped waiting for a red light to go green...the excuse: "I thought that the light would turn green in time for me to keep moving!!!!".
As far as I know the system only activates when the incoming car's driver has not applied his brakes.
Good drivers like you and I don't need the system...I want the idiots who are coming up behind me to have it!

they should be able to provide Forward Collision Warning without braking, for the manual transmissions. Forward cameras / radar watches what's in front, relative to speed, and alerts if it sees a problem. This is added safety for those that get distracted, daydream, or fall asleep at the wheel. Some people have fallen asleep at the wheel attempting a long distance drive and run into the back of an 18-wheeler.

Subaru Eyesight appears to be an excellent system, but they only make that available if you buy their CVT.
