About a week into owning my 2016 gt350, my front splitter fell off and dragged while I was on the highway. I've heard from a lot of people that ford installs these at the dealership, and many techs install them wrong. When I brought the car into the dealership they told me I had to of hit something, and that's why it fell off, and they can't cover it. What an insult. Ford has been absolutely terrible to me. You buy one of their nicest cars, and this is how they repay you? You'd think if you spent that much money on a car, it wouldn't fall apart when driving.

Low and behold, when we put the car up on the lift and took the front splitter off, one tab on my front fascia that holds the splitter to the bumber is broken, stripped, so the bolt won't bolt in. So my options are to let these horrible ford techs try and fix that plastic tab some how, or get a whole new bumber. They aren't covering damage, and I've caused a fit.

Any suggestions on what I should do?

The way the techs tend to install the lips wrong will still not result in them falling off. They often miss a tab/slot interface which causes some alignment issues, not integrity issues.

Sorry, I do think you probably hit something.

Sorry, but I beg to differ with you, as my splitter also came off at about 70 mph due to the dealer not installing it properly. They didn't use any of the small screws that go in on an angle.

This has also happened to other members here, so before calling someone a liar, you should probably do a little searching first.

To the OP, I would cause a bigger "fit". There is a thread on here documenting that this has been a very common issue.

I would show your dealer that thread, and threaten legal.

FWIW my dealer took care of the issue in a very professional way...

I agree with the above action . . . . go through your dealer first with the information on this problem. If they don't address it to your satisfaction, then ask for the contact information for the regional manager. They should know more about the problem and have the authority to address this immediately.

You might also try going to a different dealer, one who doesn't have an incentive to defend themselves regarding an incorrect installation.

I will say that if the splitter is correctly installed, it should be extremely robust. I curbed mine one day while parking at work, and it was fine. The impact was pretty significant as well. You'd have to hit something pretty large and heavy to knock the splitter off IMO.

Best of luck OP
Ford screwed me over one of my stripes being messed up. When I picked up the car "no problem, we'll have that fixed" The dealer then ordered the wrong stripe and the whole thing became a mess that Ford wanted nothing to do with.

I then went on line to Ford Customer Care and got in touch them my regional customer rep. She was completely and totally useless.

Get in touch with you local customer rep and see if you have more luck. Doesn't sound like your going to get very far with you dealership.

Again.. best of luck and keep us posted.

Have to agree w the others, you did call him a liar, Spacebird...
Also, if the splitter was PROPERLY installed and it ripped off due to him hitting something, there'd be much more damage evident.

OP, I'd bring this up the chain until you get satisfaction. Make them prove you hit something, the evidence will be on the bolt holes if there were actually bolts installed. Get legal rep as a last resort. Good Luck!!!

If you hit something the bolt holes would be ripped.
If not then it fell off, easy to figure it out.
DOn't let them puller your chain.

As far as fixing it, should I have ford mess with the plastic tab and try and fix it without replacing the bumber?

I certainly would be escalating until I ran out of escalations. My dealer also installed mine incorrectly. That got taken car of when I stood in front of my salesman and told him the service people lied to me. Fortunately, I was taken care of

I've driven the spoiler into a curb pretty hard, mauling one of the points. I've hit a large dead skunk at 75 mph.

My splitter is still mounted perfectly. If your splitter is installed correctly the only way it comes off is if its torn off the mounts leaving pieces. This will likely be so severe it will take chunks of the bumper cover with it too.

I said, "Sorry, I do think you probably hit something." That doesn't mean he knows he hit something and is intentionally lying about it. Thumps and bumps with road debris happen all the time in Texas.
