Finally!! I fixed it! For now 😁.

I pulled the wheel well liner and nothing really stood out as a rattle type issue. I was pretty discouraged, but pressed on. I just began putting a socket on everything and tightening down. I found two things…. My lower brake caliper mounting bolt was a little loose and the washer had some play (embarrassed about that one! Apparently I did a crap job of installing it after replacing the wheel bearing). Glad I haven’t done any autocross lately! I tightened that down.

The other issue, which I believe is the culprit was the top nut on the shock mount was a little loose. I couldn’t find any play when pulling and pushing on the shock, but I got the nut to turn a bit when tightening it down. This most likely seems consistent with the sound I was hearing. Not sure why I didn’t think to do that ages ago!

Additionally, the bottom of the rear fender, at the back, has a plastic mount that makes noise when you move it around like going over bumps (behind the wheel well liner). I shoved some felt pads in a gap in the mount and it took the play and noise out.

We will see how long it lasts!! Thanks for the help!

I feel like this type of rattle is the most prolific across these cars from 2015 (like mine) all the way to new Mach 1s for example. I have yet to figure out what mine is after trying multiple solutions. I don’t believe it’s interior related.

I get the feeling it may be the top nut on the shock because the rattle did get more noticeable over time. Same as you I don’t get any play when I grab it and try to jiggle the shock. I’m also going to have a shop inspect all of my bushings because the car is 8 years old now with 60k miles so it could be an old bushing failed.

I know it adds weight but I may put some dynamat in the fender openings and trunk floor behind the liner to quiet things. The car rides well enough on my suspension setup, but the rattles over my rough roads makes the car feel cheap and harsh riding at times.
