Actually we can't really be sure at ces ford said the mustang would feature the newest version of the sync/mft platform. If that is Qnx based then that is what the stang will run... Like everything else we are waiting for more details I guess.Just to clarify, the thinking is the 2015 Mustang will have Microsoft, and the models beyond will be running QNX? That sounds bad for people who buy 2015 :/
Since the OS is software, and my understanding is the Sync itself is just a mini-pc behind the dashboard, its very possible that Ford can just issue a software upgrade. You still have to consider their license agreement with Microsoft which also might prohibit Ford from issuing such an upgrade on vehicles running Microsoft's OS.Just to clarify, the thinking is the 2015 Mustang will have Microsoft, and the models beyond will be running QNX? If they go Chapter 11, QNX would definitely be sold off and continue. As a small business who deals with businesses of varying sizes, almost all of them run W7 on workstations and love it. XP Mode for legacy apps is smooth and easy, and almost all industrial programs are designed for Windows, though that is changing. 8 and Vista are pretty meh, but MS is pretty consistent with having a good version every-other-time.The software company is actually QNX, which was bought by RIM/BB in 2010. They've been around a long time.
Just another hit for Microsoft, which is on a real roll in pissing off consumers with uninspired and non-intuitive software and devices. They've managed to piss off just about everyone in the small business world with three crap OS platforms in a row (Vista, 7, and 8).
Watching them self-immolate is a little bewildering to watch. They've been behind the curve in literally everything lately.
That said, a partnership with Google or Apple might have been a more inspired choice, as there's a good chance RIM might be in Ch. 11 by the time this takes effect. But they were looking for a stable and proven software, and the QNX systems definitely are that.
I'd agree that the S550 will probably get QNX. Sidenote - why does Ford slap this Aston grille on EVERYTHING they make now? Every car starts with the same nose and is slightly modified going backward.... I like the look but when every car in the lineup looks the same it appears you ran out of innovation :doh:I'm now anxious to find out exactly what system the 2015 is getting.
As reported today http://jalopnik.com/the-us-is-getting-the-2015-ford-focus-with-a-1-0-liter-1529605935 the 2015 Focus (slated for release this Fall, just like the Mustang) is said to have the QNX Sync 2.0 system.
It would seem to me the Mustang SHOULD be getting this system as well but maybe the official reveal was too early to tell us exactly what was behind the updated system. I'm going to be extremely annoyed if the Mustang is getting an updated system of something Ford is ditching.
Not just Ford. All the other automobile manufacturer's line up follow the same design pattern. I guess none of them are innovative.I'd agree that the S550 will probably get QNX. that's how I feel about AppleMany people spend their lives avoiding Google's grip.. it would be a shame to have to pass ups on Fords, because they sided with them.
I would agree. Neat!I wonder if that means that an existing vehicle can be upgraded to the QNX software, or simply that Ford can cut in a rolling change at the plant whenever the software becomes available? The wording in the quote could be interpreted either way. I would guess that the same thing applied to S550.
