Assuming the Mach 1 is a 2018 model, my guess is that it will be the 3.5 EB eng.

I believe the 2018 GT eng will basically be the 350 GT eng with a cross-plane crank complete with it's own version of the 350 heads (less the CNC machining).

They will have to do this because the new LT1 Camaro has a notable power to weight advantage over the current GT spec and without large changes to the chassis (supposedly now 2020) they aren't going to change the weight in any meaningful way which just leaves power and more particularly torque, which the 5.2 will give. Hopefully they will also increase the redline to maybe 7000 to start taking advantage of its advanced capabilities (I find it embarrassing that a large capacity pushrod motor (LT1) has the same RPM ceiling as our supposedly more modern engine)

I read somewhere that Ford are now doing the spray bore process (required for the 5.2) in house, this suggest to me a larger production rate is expected and should also make it more cost effective. And if I'm not mistaken didn't Ford introduces a new range of engines on the last model update of the S197, as it looks like 2018 will be the last update of S550
Okay...well...there's a few things...

The LT1 hits peak power around 700 rpm before the coyote, and starts dropping after that. The Coyote makes its peak power at around 6,500 but the engine will easily and happily spin to about 7,500 without issue, it just won't continue to make power there due to the constricted intake manifold. Just putting on the GT350 IM, TB and intake lets the motor continue to make power past 6,500.

I did the same. Got rid of my 2003 Azure Blue Mach 1 and bought a 16' GT California. I am hoping for a new Mach 1 as well!

Any pics of your current ride jpilone? I'd love to see the back end especially with that exhaust set up.

Thanks!!
Funny!!!!!

If the Mach 1 has less than a supercharged 6.2 liter + engine, I will be disappointed.

To be fair though, take the f150s 6.2, add another cam on each side, make the block out of aluminum rather than iron and you'd have quite a potent motor.

it would be excellent if it would fit in a mustang. They would have to chop the deck down or something to make that motor fit with DOHC. I actually think a 4v SOHC head would be great or even a 3v SOHC for the 6.2 and keep it the same size. But the current head already has excellent breathing potential.

Yep.

We'll probably get a 25 hp+tq bump with special wheels, some j.c. whitney inspired spoiler bits, Mach I interior logo bits, and $42k starting price. :D

No way Ford brings a Mach I out with anything near 500hp.

I dunno about a s550, but it does fit in a s197. Might be a tight squeeze in a dohc form. But yeah, even 4v sohc would be sweet

:ford:Mach 1 . Here's my take.....................5.0 coyote in that bay . No direct injection. If there's a HP bump 8-12 with a different tune. Ford Shaker on the hood? Maybe. Interior option package unique to the MACH 1 scheme of the car. Upgraded suspension for sure. It will be a sweet ride................:headbang:

Totally agree with bobbyh!
It will probably just be a nostalgic cosmetic appearance package with minimal performance/horsepower upgrades.
I would bet less than a 25hp/25tq increase.
Spot on at $42,000 to start.
Ford will sell every one they can produce.
I'll pass.

Why not a 5.0 with the flatplane crank making around 500 hp.:headbang:

I'd be interested in a Mach 1. I had 03 DSG Mach. Loved the DOHC motor and parts. It's like team mustang went over to the SVT bins when they weren't looking and grabbed a few things. LOL

My guess - 465-475 hp - some parts robbed from the gt350 head intake areas, and give a solid rear end or just better suspension to handle the drag racing launches, and lighten up the car with a few other bits and pieces.

Anything less than 500 is kind of a let down. By then the regular SS will be 475.
