The poor m5 comp is limited to 156 top speed. The 2015-2019 charger hellcat could do 204 mph. Heck a mustang GT can go what 160+? Not hating on your m5 but that seems like an early cut off on your top speed.
I believe all BMWs, Mercedes, and Audis have a gentleman's agreement to limit top speed to 155mph.

I was told before that it's a U.S. policy. I know for a fact, however, that the European spec versions are not governed. There would be a revolution in Germany if they were :)

IceAge - your grey Mustang is just gorgeous. It is absolutely beautiful. I am a middle aged fogey that has never tracked my car but it sure would be nice to see a comparison between the M and the GT. I think I have seen comparisons with the Hellcat which is just a savage.

I did read the article where BMW was sandbagging the power at the wheels on the M. The thing is really really fast. I used to have the previous generation (rear wheel drive) and I could never punch it because I felt like I would lose control.
Yes I totally know the feeling since I have owned many Hellcats and until I picked up the Redeye Wide Body Challenger they are notorious for kicking out and going side ways. Which actually I like that lol and my Redeye is just like a sling shot effect since she just grabs. And interesting is how my Redeye feels slower lol than my Charger since you don’t get that bust loose action.

BMW has a $2,500 option to take the top speed to 189 on US models; needless to say I didn't go for it. However, some people have completely flashed / tune their engine management system to remove the limiter.
Didn't know that, thanks.

Funny. Mustang guy jokes about build quality. I wouldn’t throw rocks from a glass house.

I didn't spend $100K or pound my chest over build quality, I know exactly where a Mustang sits on that scale. I only say it because, well, it's __funny__ and it seems to be a constant discussion point - I know when I was cross shopping an M Cab, it was almost always the [perceived] differentiator.

Also, well, I'll cross post if you want :D

Then why isn't there more pushback against the agenda to have speed limits on the entire autobahn?

He's too busy tracking down squeaks and rattles ...
Epic! You read my vent on the F90 forum. The squeaks and rattles are horrendous in my car - one in the B pillar, one in sunroof being the repeat offenders. I hate the dealers in my area to reliably fix them so just living with it.

There's huge push back. It's been a never ending debate. From a logic standpoint, there should have been a speed limit there long ago. Sooner or later it may happen, but so far the car companies have been too powerful and enough of the general population has cared enough to oppose it. Time will tell. Funny, the car manufacturers have also been able to influence where speed cameras do NOT go, like where cars are tested. Open secret.

Hahaha, yeah, I was just giving you the business. :D , but that's a f***ing bummer, especially at the price point of an M car. I think part of the problem is, not unlike a GT350 or GT500, they're not a bespoke platform, so they inherit the high volume production issues of the platform, i.e., a $75K M4 starts with the same 4-series base that BMW leases for $249/month.

We had a few BMWs, a Z3, an X5 4.4i Sport, a 3 series Ci (convertible), and they were all pretty solid, mostly leased, like I continue to do with the main family ride (currently a DD/RT), so we don't have to worry about non-warranty repair costs (or any issues in general, I think most modern vehicles, outside of a few outliers are good for 3-4 years and 50K miles worry free).
