What would you like to know about tier 2? The design will be identical to tier 1 but with improved clearances for an even better solid feel. The material tier 2 will be made out of is translucent so painting by the buyer will be "required" (you can always leave them translucent if you like the look) The paint I would suggest would be acrylic enamel. This would be wheel paint basically. Should be durable enough for the toggles. You can also plastic dip them if you wish. (unsure how this would hold up though)

Great, I'm going to try and Dura-coat them.

It'll give them a rubberized feel, and the coating on my hunting rifle has held up great.

Awesome! You are going to have to let me know how it turns out!

I'm in the area. Will there be anyway to see them before buying? I'd like to especially if there's a considerable difference between tier 1 and 2

It should be possible! I will have prototype 2 as a reference to tier 1 (tier 1 design will be slightly different but close) And I will hopefully have a prototype/complete set of tier 2. This will still be a few weeks out though before I will have both in hand.

There will not be a large difference between 1 and 2. Tier 2 will just have some decent enhancements in feel and finish because of the higher resolution print. Like I said before though, Tier 2 will require painting finishing by the buyer where as tier 1 will be a direct plug and play unit.

Have you considered order the GT premium Bezel for overall compatibility or just Dimensions?

I ask because that is the only trim item from the Premium that I want on my base, and obviously I found this thread why searching for information about doing just that.

Having some experience in this area, are you primarily considering additive manufacturing? I ask tool for doing injection molding, even a simply prototype tool with manual slides is easily 5k. Fixtures for machining is probably 1K and fortunately your components are almost identical sue for the symbols which is a simple program swap, not a fixture change.

Excited to see this, and as someone who prototype and built some ACR lower receivers if you need a hand just let me know.

I did actually consider buying the GT premium center stack bezel before the start of this project. Ford wanted $570 for it though... Way to much to spend on just a bezel. The idea down the road is to modify the base bezel to match the premium as much as possible. I would like to do accent trim on the areas that have chrome on the premium (around the climate controls, the horizontal dividers that separate the climate controls, audio control accents, etc...)

As you stated, injection molding is crazy expensive or a project like this. I had considered using molds to create urethane castings as a poor man's equivalent to low production injection molding. Even still this would have cost me more to get going then what I have available to me. Because of this I am sticking with additive (3D) manufacturing for the time being. Shapeways seems to offer decent quality parts/materials as well as the ability to easily sell my design.

Can you order just the Switch assembly? Ford is a big fan of commonized components and doesn't like to change things if possible.

Unfortunately no. The bezel and switch assembly are all one in Ford's eyes. The switches are actually attached to a one piece circuit board that houses all of the other bezel controls. So there is no way to swap/buy just the switches.

Prototype 2 arrived! This is shapeways black strong and flexible plastic. There is some stair stepping present because this part is not polished. Shapeways for some reason does not offer polished black plastic. It is not bad though and does seem to fit nicely in the interior! Will be installing this weekend!

NOTE: Final toggles will not have lettering

Video of them in action would be nice. I have a premium but have been interested just because it seems like a pretty cool project.
