Had full synthetic oil change done at 4,300 miles. Barely showed any oil on very bottom of dipstick at 5,600 miles. Smokes grey smoke after idling a while and revs. Also a lot of smoke on hard acceleration after rolling through town. Just dropped of at ford dealership to check out tomorrow.

What year? 2019?

I was concerned about mine eating oil too. I wasn’t missing much on my last change. However I checked it the other day again and my concern is back. So I’m going to have to monitor is really close again.

edited to add; mine doesn’t smoke

Yeah I just can’t believe it barely registered any oil after only 1300 miles. The smoke isn’t good either. Basically a new car. I haven’t drove it that hard at all either.

Unfortunately it seems like that's the problem, if you're too gentle on break in then the rings don't seat, supposedly anyway. Could just be assembly error as well. With that kind of usage you need to bring it in and have the dealer set up a consumption test. You *will* fail it and they should give you a new short block under warranty.

Obviously something very wrong. I bought mine in January new, and now I have a little over 5.5K miles on it, and the dipstick is not only perfectly full, but the oil ridiculously clean.

Which is the break-in method recommended by folks here? And what does the manual say? A ton of F-150 V8s had oil consumption issues, but it's not clear to me if it was the new cylinder coating (replacing iron liners), defective PCV valves, or both. Ford changed A LOT of engines. I was glad not to see the same problem here, but yeah, it's always possible for a stray engine every now and then.

I’ll see what they say today. They should know somethings wrong because they changed oil 1300 miles ago.

On a brand new car you will see a little bit of oil usage during break in time. I wouldn't say it should be like how you are seeing, but some is normal. Everything has to seat correctly. Hopefully they get it ironed out for you

Gotta beat on a new engine like a red-headed step-child on a rented mule.

Agree. My 2016 burned a bit when new, but when I traded it in at 24,000 km, not a drop.

I did an oil change on my 19 at 3000 miles and all was well. Checked the oil at 4000 miles and it wasn't even on the dip stick. It took almost 2 quarts. I decided to scope the cylinders. A photo of cylinder #5 is attached. All cylinders had some level of scuffing and scratches but nothing like #5. Brought it to the dealer and they did a consumption test where it used 2.6 quarts in 1000 miles. This was last November and since I was putting the car away for the winter, we decided to re-visit this spring. Well, now we're into this pandemic and my dealer is running with a skeleton crew so I'm just driving it and keeping an eye on the oil. I guessing a new short block in in my future.

Yep. Just left the dealership. They’re going to do the scope. May have it a while. They gave me a new explorer st to drive. That thing is bad. 400ho twin turbo V6. They should know something by tomorrow on my engine. I’ll post then.
