Based on what???Ecoboost has got to be one of the biggest marketing blunders ever especially for the Mustang and F series. I mean how lame can you get?
My opinion. Hey check out my new Mustang with the eco boost engine. Gear heads know what it is but Ford has catered to the green nuts instead of those of us that are passionate. Eco this, eco that. I am so sick of it. And the thought of a green ecoboost badge on a Mustang to me is a sin.Based on what???
My only thought that an EB with Performance Package would qualify as a special enough edition to earn that badging. With the 2.3L EB, it's going to be lighter, and it's getting all of the PP goodies of the GT sans 6-piston calipers and 3.73's.
I think Global Warming or climate change or whatever they're calling it these days is a huge fraud, that doesn't mean I wouldn't consider an ecoboost or other 'green technology' , even in a mustang.Don't like EcoBoost name. What comes to my mind is 3 cyl 1 L ecoboost engine from Fiesta. I would preffer to call it: Mustang ST, Mustang GS.
You buy a Mustang to show people how little you care about global warming. To make Prius owners feel butt-hurt.

Really simple. That's a good idea. If not at launch this might be something Ford is willing to do in the next few years as they do minor refreshes etc. I agree with others who think the V6s days are numbered. Or at least the current iteration. But I think Ford will continue to find ways to subtier the models and if that means adding a tasteful badge to a PP ecoboost I'm all for it. I'm not holding my breath though I could easily see them not doing it as well.
Yeah, I ignored mentioning the STB and staggered wheel/tires, because they wouldn't likely be needed for the EB. But honestly, I wouldn't mind if the GT + PP did have a "name" and badging associated with it. With the exception of the gloss black wheels (that I don't want) and some brembo's poking through them, it'll look like a regular GT to anyone who isn't a real enthusiast.Doesn't get the bracing or the larger rear tires that the GT does either, but maybe with its slightly lower weight and power doesn't need them as much. But I understand your point.
By your logic, the GT+PP should get special badging as well?
I think the 'look' of the EB+PP with its special wheels and such should be unique enough that most will recognize it as different than the base model.
I added EcoBoost badges to my '07 GT after installing a Vortech Supercharger. Nice touch, IMO, even though Mustang purists didn't like it.....At least it doesn't have an ecoboost badge on it. ;)
My beef with the whole eco Boost program is that the 4's deliver V6 power with V6 gas mileage. I am not sure what is going to be gained with the 2.3 eco and more importantly at what cost.Let us all remember the V6 was supposed to be axed completely but was brought back to sell the car at a lower price point. The Ecoboost was designed as the BASE engine for the S550. It doesn't need any special names. If you want a special car, get the GT!
Better power/weight, better low and mid range torque, less overall weight and less weight out over the nose. Considering the torque curve of the 2.0L EB, if the 2.3L falls in line with that, you'll have an insanely broad power range which will make the 2.3L EB absolutely a riot to drive fast. It'll make decent power too with minor mods because of the hairdryer. Sounds like a perfect autocross car if they keep the weight reasonably low.My beef with the whole eco Boost program is that the 4's deliver V6 power with V6 gas mileage. Not doubting the better torque curve but I do question the weight loss that is yet to be seen. Again, what is really going to be gained at what cost? The 3.7 is dead nuts reliable from what I have seen and is capable of 30 mpg. On a budget Mustang I believe the 3.7 will be a better choice.Better power/weight, better low and mid range torque, less overall weight and less weight out over the nose.
