This rendering is awfully inaccurate.... Looks like a cross between the old aftermarket gt350 and the new 2015 gt with minimal imagination

The front looks a lot more slanted, or overbite-ish from what I can tell with the camp on. I think the front will be fairly different

As for "Shelby", if the new wheteveritis carries the name, it's purely for marketing purposes. Shelby had nothing to do with this car, his company only collects a fat licensing fee, and when he was alive he had zero input or contribution to the GT500 other than collecting his money. The car should be named after something that means something.
I don't know if Shelby was involved with the S550 or not. Shelby worked with SVT to set performance & price goals for the S197. He let SVT work out the technology & engineering.

We own a 2013 Ford Mustang SVT 20th Anniversary Cobra Shelby GT500. I would be just as happy if it was just a cobra & didn't have the Shelby name.

I don't think people would pay $60K for it if it didn't say Shelby though.

Please excuse my ignorance...what is the difference? Aren't they the same thing just SVT is the newer name for svo? Or did they start building things differently when they changed names too?

Because neither are Shelby, and both produced great cars without a marque name.

I prefer "SVO", because it is more obscure and harken to "tech" and turbo... than SVT's hi-po stuff.
Hi-po stuff is only needed in the drag race arena & bragging rites.

For track stuff, you need balanced engineering & tech.
Anything past 500hp is useless, unless you drag all the time.
Shelby was never synonymous handling.. just horsepower.

SVO reminds me of Cosworth Fords.

SVO = Special Vehicle Operations

SVT = Special Vehicle Team

AVO = Advanced Vehicle Operations

Team RS = Team Rallye Sport

Ford have had a history of creating small "skunkworks" teams to produce sporting cars.

I guess, in terms of Mustang, Shelby was the first, albeit an external company. But their remit was the same.

Whilst it doesn't "make sense" for a Ford SVT product to be sold as a Shelby (it's SVT, after all, that do the development) marketing sells and the Shelby badge is known around the world, much more so than SVT.
