Yes, Ford did the right thing by positioning the MAF Sensor a diameter or so (of the inlet duct) inboard of the air filter to allow the flow velocity to develop.
Not sure where the viper's sensor is relative to the PCV system, but I believe the intake does slope downward from the throttle bodies, so it is possible that a large amount of oil could flow down from the PCV to the airflow sensor on that car. Maybe it isn't as much of a concern on the Mustang.
