3 weeks ago I started my car and noticed a check engine light had popped up, I thought great here we go. I grabbed my code reader and it read cyl. 8 misfire.
The car ran fine no drive ability issues so I made a appt. with the dealer and took it it. I waited on the car assuming they would just throw a plug and coil on cyl. 8 and take it from there. The service advisor came and got me after a hour and said his tech checked the coil and plug connections and found nothing. He reset the code and asked if I could leave it so they could get it to duplicate, otherwise he told me to drive it and if it comes back to come back in? I asked that they put a coil and plug in and he told me unless he can get it to do it he couldn't just put parts on, I told them no I am not going to just leave it and that if I get another code they will be the first to know.
Well sure enough today I drove the car around to get some stuff done and it sat for about 6 hours and I went to fire it back up and there was the light again. I ran the code and same misfire on cyl. 8? My dealer service is closed already but am making a appt for Monday. I always run 93 oct. and from the same station, I have used this station since I got the car new. First code was at 1,850 miles and now is at 1,950 miles.
Just curious if anybody has had any misfire codes and what fixed them?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.

No misfire codes for me but did you happen to take pic/video to show the dealer?

No I left the code on for them to read, I didn't erase it and I didn't erase it this time either.

If it’s a P0308 error code, see the Helm info (including possible causes) near the bottom of the link under my picture.

You betcha!

I kinda remember a couple of folks having misfire issues due to a defective pin in an electrical connector. I hope it’s nothing serious for you

Hey all just a quick update, car has been in the shop 4 times and is currently in for the 5th time. Its a very odd issue as the car runs fine and roughly every 2 weeks on a cold start it the check engine light comes on. Misfire on cyl. 8? They tried replacing most of the list Tank put out and no luck. I will update once I get some answers.

Hey @Onyx,
Thanks for the update. Sucks they haven't been able to troubleshoot it yet. Here's the Pinpoint tests for misfires from the Helm. Let me know if you want me to track down anything that's referenced elsewhere.

Thanks Tank I will print them and take them to my dealer. I really appreciate the info in the file, hopefully this helps them diagnose and get this beast back on the road and track!
I leave for the track attack next week, 350 on wed and boss frs on thursday. I havent been on track in the last 2 years so this should be a good refresher and there is always something new to learn. I track at Road America in Elkhart lake, Wi. great track to run.

Thanks again Josh

Yes this occured to me during a track day @NJMP last year. The car was towed to nearest Ford dealership where they replaced the defective connector. Apart from a ruined track day no further concequences and Ford service covered all costs including transportation from/ to dealership which was about 100 miles from where I live.
The car lost significant power and there was a pretty awfull smell when it was running. Doesn't seem to be the same issue Onyx is having though? Good luck Onyx and I am sure they will find and solve the issue.
Best

So did they put in a new fuel injector? I've had many-a-problem with misbehaving fuel injectors. Combustion really needs a consistent spray pattern for optimum burn, or unspent fuel finds its way over the O2 sensors, thru the CATs, over the O2 sensors and out the tailpipes...MIL...

Hey all been a busy few weeks for me, did the 2 day track attack 2 weeks ago with the 350 the first day and the Boss the second day. (It was a great time) Well I got my car back from the dealer installing a whole new intake manifold last Thursday and just drove it to get some food over the weekend. Bringing Us to today, I left to get some gas and then off to lunch. While on my way to lunch the car starts smoking out the back like a smoke screen and the RPMs go to 0,
I go to start it again and nothing. Sadley I know all to well what has happened before I even got out and saw oil pooling up behind the car. I proceeded to open the hood and there is no coolant in the reservoir and I check my oil out of habit with this car every time I drive it so I saw full oil, full coolant. I could also see oil all over the under tray so I knew the motor was toast. Had it towed back to the dealer and they are putting a new engine in. Man this car is truly a love hate relationship!

Wow, that was a rapid freefall from a misfire code to blown engine. Wish there was more to say except that sucks. Considering all the time you spent at the dealership, you might want to consider pushing for a buy back. I don’t know if that’s a reality for you. Good luck with it all.

Edit: when I liked the post above, it was for keeping us informed, not that your engine blew up

crazy to think the car has been in the shop to investigate and nothing was found, only for the motor to let go now. sorry to hear. make them buy it back and get into a new one :like:
