I live in Orange County...What city do you live in?
I live up in Ventura County. It's a bit of a drive but I wouldn't mind making the trip if you'd be willing to meet up. I was just down in Mission Viejo last weekend getting my girl a new car!

Just installed my MGW this past Saturday, holy hell what a difference! I was running the stock shifter with both the Steeda shifter mount and transmission bushing and it had some annoying NVH. After installing the MGW the setup is actually quieter since I removed both of those bushings when I installed the new short throw. The shifts are spot-on with the added stiffness it actually feels like I'm shifting a performance car.

I thought I could just do some bushings and possibly a drop in short throw but after some time with those terrible setups, I'm so happy I switched to the MGW. Zero 2nd or 3rd gear "nibbling" and you know when you're in the next gear.

How was the install? You have a lift? Any problems with that one bolt that hits the drive shaft?

Bolt that hits the drive shaft? I'm not sure what you're talking about, none of the bolts that you install even face vertically and none of the bolts are close to the driveshaft. In the MGW video they emphasize how difficult the front bolt is to remove and install but if you follow their directions for lowering the transmission then it's not too bad, you just have to be patient and use ratchet wrenches. I highly recommend watching their install video all the way through a few times before doing the install as it's time consuming to try and watch the video and do the install at the same time.

I did have a lift at a friends house, but this can definitely be done on ramps or jackstands it will just take a bit longer. The hardest part of the install is the damn rubber boot that wraps around the shifter and fits into the transmission tunnel on the body. The fit is so tight on the shifter, even if you lube it up it's so straining on your fingers to get it on right.

I just watched part of the video again. I mis-remembered, it doesn't actually hit the drive shaft. But there is that 10mm bolt that he said (in the video) may require reefing down on the drive shaft in order to get access to it. Others have mentioned this being a pain as well. Which is the one you talk about when lowering the tranny. I would be alone, so trying to understand if a second person is actually needed to pull down on the drives shaft in order to get access.

It's the last bolt you take off of the stock shifter, and the first one you put on the MGW. It's on top of the transmission and the forward most bolt on the shifter. It's a long 10mm bolt with the hex facing the passenger side. I didn't pull down on the driveshaft at all, since the trans is already lowered (by removing the subframe brace) you can wiggle or push it however you need for extra room.

I used ramps and jack stands. The long bolt you are referring to is the one at the top of the transmission where the shifter support arm is bolted. Because its so long you have to remove the transmission mount so it sags a bit and you still have to pull down on the DS to get enough clearance to pull it out but it wasnt that bad. 2nd person may help but if you dont have a lift its gonna be hard to fit two people under the car. Im 145# and I was able to put some pressure on the DS so I could get the bolt out. Took me 3.5 hours taking my time, checking the video to do it right. Also taking breaks since it was so damn hot outside. Definitely have ratcheting wrenches like they use in the video. Ratchet + socket will have a hard time fitting in most places.

I also agree the rubber boot part was certainly the most annoying. I have a tip for that. Bolt on the top half of the shifter so you can set the reverse lockout correctly. After you do that, unbolt it and put the rubber boot on with it uninstalled. It was a hell of a lot easier than doing it while the top half of the shifter was installed. Put it on in about 30 sec instead of straining my fingers for the past 5 minutes, getting nowhere, and grease all over my hands.

I didn't even think to do that!

Great tip!

Just installed my MGW shifter and MAN its nice. The shifts are so crisp and tight, don't know how else to explain it. There is no play at all in the shifter. I wish I had gotten this done since day one. I paired it up with a 700g Raceseng shift knob and the shifts are buttery smooth.

That looks great, could you please link me to that shift knob? I can't seem to find it on their website.

Thanks! Its actually a Raceseng shift knob. You can check out their products at www.raceseng.com Since the MGW shifter utilizes the same thread as the S197 I just picked a shift knob from the 11-14 mustang section. You just don't need to use the little jam nut it comes with since our shifter has one already.

stuck with the OEM knob on mine, waiting for GT350 shift knob. Not a fan of the pool ball type knobs

I wrote up an install tips/tricks review earlier...did it on ramps, on my back. Really wasn't difficult at all. Didn't pull the DS, didn't push or pull on the DS...and I've got pretty fat hands. Just go in through the top of the shift tunnel for the parts that are tight to get to from the bottom/around the DS, and have plenty of wobble extensions on hand. You'll be golden.
RustedAngel..I can't find your write up??
