I wrote up an install tips/tricks review earlier...did it on ramps, on my back. Really wasn't difficult at all. Didn't pull the DS, didn't push or pull on the DS...and I've got pretty fat hands. Just go in through the top of the shift tunnel for the parts that are tight to get to from the bottom/around the DS, and have plenty of wobble extensions on hand. You'll be golden.

So I just got my MGW shifter installed:headbang:

Question: I noticed that putting it into 1st gear seems more like where 3rd gear use to be....it's not as far upper left as it use to be.

Is this correct?

Install it yourself? If so, with ramps/jack stands? How was it?

No I got it installed professionally...I'm not as mechanically inclined to do that, but I was watching it getting installed. It seems like it would be pretty difficult without doing it on a lift...I think a hand full of people here have done it, but it'll require some more time and patience

1.5 hours...They took about 2 hours, this was there first 2015 mustang MGW install and said it was different than the last generation installs.

Are you thinking of getting one?

At some point, yes. Would like to get one now, but the 30% exchange rate is putting a damper on a lot of my US based purchases right now. Then couple that with me not being sure if I could do the install on my back, thus paying another couple hundred on install, it gets kinda pricey.

did mine myself today in 3.5h, taking my time. Ramps and jackstands. Havent gotten to take it for a spin but just moving the car in the driveway, teh shifter is way better. I dont think a lift would speed it up a whole lot unless your taking off the exhaust to do it. I had the skinny arms advantage, its pretty tight in there. I definately had to pull on the DS a bit to get that long 10mm bolt out and back in

Hopefully more MGW owners chime in as well..

I feel 1st gear is more centered like 3rd gear use to be...and I don't have a problem with it, I just want to make sure it was installed correctly!

The shifter might change your perception of the gates but it can't change the location of them. As long as you can run through all six comfortably and your reverse lockout is adjusted properly you are GTG.

since the actual stick is shorter, the knob itself doesnt move as far as the OEM so it may give you that perception. Plus the OEM shifter was full of play and slop

I'm sorry I can't help answer your question but I am looking at ordering an MGW shifter for my black 2015 GTPP. I saw you're in SoCal! Where abouts are you? Would you perhaps be willing to meet up so I could check the shifter out in person? I'd be willing to buy lunch and/or beer!
