I am honestly not sure what section to post this in and it is kind of hard to explain but I need some help from someone that might know what could be causing this -

I am getting the attached clicking noise from seemingly the rear of the car, every time that I slow down (the brake pedal does NOT have to be pressed, just the car slowing on its own also produces it AND it seems to happen for a set amount of time, like 5 seconds and then it stops, before the car stops). So, I would think it is not brake related.

I can't really tell which side of the car it's coming from, it is hard to hear it unless I am slowing down right next to other cars or a wall. If I have the windows up or even have them down and the radio on, I can't really hear it.

It is almost like a baseball card in a bike spoke kind of sound, if the card was metal...but the odd thing is it does not happen the whole time that the wheels are turning but only for about a 5 second interval every single time I slow down, from like 20 MPH to 5 MPH. I couldn't really isolate it to any specific gear either. It also happens if I put it in neutral and let the car slow naturally.

I took it to the dealership, they kept it for 3 days and basically said to wait to see if it gets worse and then bring it back...

have you checked under the rear heat shield? exhaust hanger?

do you feel any vibration coming through the pedal?

As far as what I can see, I do not see anything underneath that looked out of place.

I don't feel any vibration and the driving itself seems normal, it is really just the noise.

I am not really mechanically inclined, but I am having a hard time imagining what could even cause that clicking to only consistently happen for a few seconds, when slowing down from only like 20mph to 5 mph.

Could be a wheel bearing. I've read a few threads on this forum with similar complaints, and that's what it turned out to be. Take it in under warranty.

Wouldn't a wheel bearing make noise the whole time the wheel was turning and not just for a few seconds between 20mph-5mph and then stop making noise even though the wheels were still moving?

I honestly hope it is a wheel bearing, but I am just trying to wrap my mind around why it is only making noise under those very specific circumstances.

I'm just going by what I've read here. It all seems to be slow speed clicking same as you described. See If you can do a search...

Thanks. I have searched and also seen some posts about wheel bearings but have not been able to find anything where the noise only happens under my specific circumstance.

From what I read, bad wheel bearings seem to cause more noise the faster the wheels turn, which is not the case for me.

I had the same noise and after changing out the trans, the problem ended up being a bad driveshaft.

EEEK. Maybe I am just not meant to be a Ford owner. I have been driving sports cars for over 30 years but the only Ford's that I have ever owned were this 23 Mach 1 and my 22 GT W/ PP (which in the year that I owned it spent 3+ months in service & required an engine replacement and then a buy back from Ford).

The worst part is trying to get service (at least around my area), they have been completely incompetent.

Wheel bearing, carrier bushing on the driveshaft, CV joint maybe.

Go do a big burnout and see if it gets worse.:like:

It sucks your dealer is that lazy. They should be embarrassed.

Thanks. It's honestly every dealership I have tried. Completely different dealership than the one that I had the debacle with for my GT.

And as an extra kick in the arse, most of their appointments are weeks out to even get it looked at (or in my case not really looked at because in 3 days that they had it, they didn't even go as far as taking a wheel off).

If anyone has any recommendations for a good dealership in the Metro Detroit suburban area, I would love to hear it.

Looks like you live near me, what dealership did you end up going with to fix the driveshaft?

Took it to another dealership today. I work almost an hour away from home and rushed right after work to make my appointment about an hour and 20 minute drive to be told "well if it is a drivetrain issue or a driveshaft issue, I only have one guy that can work on it and he can't look at it until DECEMBER, so I wouldn't advise leaving it". WTH!!!

And I specifically told them what the problem was on the phone when I made the appointment, so it's not like they thought I was coming in for an oil change.

This is absurd Ford.
