My friend is doing a blower (supercharger I think) and targeting like 600-800hp Would be an auto car.

How much power before the differential is an issue?

I've been told the axles are more likely to fail before the diff. Tell your friend to research GT350 axles.

Consider upgrading to the steel differential which is found in manual transmission cars, as the ears have been known to break off on the aluminum differentials. Better half shafts (whether they be GT350 or stronger ones). I think the differential can break with less power than your friend is anticipating under the right set of circumstances.

Taking care of the diff bushings is a big deal. If the housing is just floating around on the stock bushings, it's moving way too much and they will break all sorts of stuff. The diff itself is probably not the weak link.

The rule of thumb to help axles is no hot tire burn-outs. Those big pit box leaves are always on stickers.

Stock differentials have been in the high 7's and 8's often. The Super 8.8 is very stout.

Guessing this was from some massive wheel hop? The differential had to have over rotated back and forth pretty extreme for this to happen.

Must of been! But, if you can pick up a steel housing, your be ahead of most and I believe there are aftermarket bushings available, as well as other devices to stop the hop and reduce wheel spin.
What I don't know, is it easier to drop the complete rear cradle from your car and do the work on a bench or make the changes from under the car??

At 800RW, the diff should be fine. The half shafts should be upgraded, to a minimum of GT350 axles. For insurance install Steeda's hardcore diff support & bushings.

Agreed! Upgrade half shafts and add the Steeda Hardcore differential bracket and bushings with their through bolt kit. The differential will have to be dropped in order to install the bushings (and properly torque them) as well as the differential bracket.

Thanks for posting the video! And that's the way I'd do it, if I had a 3 man Crew and lift... But, I do all my own work by myself and only have a scissor lift (which 1k times better than I've had in the past), so I was thinking of pulling the complete rear cradle out and upgrading everything, in preparation for the possibility of a future 700 HP motor/tranny combination.

Are those quick jacks? My quick jacks 7000lbs and the thicker pads raise my Stang up pretty darn high. Looks like your is barely off the ground?
Mine only go up one notch, I think they went up farther when they were new. Can't remember! Guess I need to pull out the manual and do some troubleshooting??

Looks like I got lucky with my $275 eBay purchase. It has a steel housing!
Does anyone know if the Mustang axles are a one size fits all??
