I'm looking into supercharging my 19 gt a10 and getting a boss 302 manifold with an increased rpm limit. Im being told I would need new crank sprockets and a new oil pump gear. I will go with boundary, but im confused on if I need the Martinwear treated OPG or not. My rpm limit will be somewhere around 8000 probably and Im plan on getting an ESS G3 kit to put down about 800-850whp on e85. Do I even need new crank sprockets and oil pump gear? And is the martinwear treated necessary or not?

I don’t think it’ll hurt to give it a try. A quick AI search said it’s supposed to be good for high revving turbo/sc applications and it can resist damages from small debris.

To turn 8K rpm, do you plan on upgrading valve springs too, so that you don’t encounter valve float?

Maybe one of the oldest and highly debated topics on this forum.

I have the Martenwear Boundary stuff. Hasn't blown up yet. Its really a heat treatment, not a coating.

Take a Katana Sword for example. The cutting edge is harder than the spine, so that the Sword as a whole can absorb shock better, but the edge is hardened further to achieve a sharper surface and resistance to chipping and such.

Same idea here. The surface of the material is harder than the core, so that it maintains its shape and smoothness, but the core of the gear is still the softer forged material to avoid shattering like the OEM ones tend to do* (again, highly debated, a lot of speculation, and many people successfully flog their motors over and over again with no problems).

Anyone who tells you it has to be done is wrong. It does not have to be done. There are far more cars running stock OPGs on boost with increased rev limiters than there are cars with upgraded ones.

I can go to ford and buy a warrantied whipple GT pushing 800+HP with stock OPS, which is why I never upgraded mine.
