Yeah, the 1st to 2nd shift is the worst for me. Shifting that quickly is very painful, so I start in second unless starting on a hill going uphill.

My THUD used to rattle my glove box, it was that intense! First time i heard it, i thought the car behind me in traffic hit me and i literally got out of the car ready to beat him up!(The car was brand new no miles on it so ...... I was mad)

This THUD is really annoying but i m use to it now! I feel like it ease down a little, i also swapped to Royal Purple trans fluid and it kinda helped!

The problem is.. Not enough of us are going to the dealer. I hate dealers. With a passion. Going there is like choosing to talk to a bunch of imbeciles pretending to know about cars. But .. I may have to just go in and report this. I can replicate this easily in mine. A friend at work with a 16 non pp told me his car was perfect. Yesterday I went out and sat in his car and let it idle ..and eplicated the thud in his car just going into gear.. Parked at a stop. Now he's pissed off

If the blowfish bracket improves things or reduces the delay between the noise and the shift it's possible that the transmission is moving relative to the chassis during this event. I can feel the thunk and thought it was some kind of weight transfer going on. Has anyone tried the blowfish bracket and the whiteline transmission mount insert together and noticed any improvement or change?
I have the bracket and I did not see a difference, but then again what I experience is minimal. From some of these descriptions I'm hearing the severity of "the thud" varies. I don't hear anything but just feel a slight thump, which I hardly notice. Some of you guys need to take your cars to another dealer for a second opinion. At times I hear an odd noise on decel in first, but it is more of a "sliding" sound and I haven't felt any vibrations, feedback in the cabin or had any driveability issues. I've chalked that up to just plain noisy mechanicals in the trans.

the thud sounds like something heavy is tapping the body work underneath the car right? And we think that it's caused by the sudden slowing or stopping of something spinning that has some mass to it. I say put on your coveralls, put her up on blocks, get your work light and a bunch of tools and get to checking your nuts and bolts. And I'm talking about everything including motor mounts and tranny mounts and bell housing. The ass end of that shifter is bolted to the body. You could even isolate the tranny mount to some degree with some thin nylon washers or some gasket material. Looking at the way the Torsen differential is made, it's highly unlikely that there is any play in that. There may be excessive play in the ring and pinion but that's not the Torsen differential. Enjoy.

Maybe we can get someone to get some quality mics on the under body and do a driving test and determine exactly where the sound is coming from.

That's not a bad idea. People assembling cars are not perfect, you never know. It seems to affect a lot of folks though, making me think it's a byproduct of design. Maybe operate the trans with a GoPro under the car? Or put the car on a lift with a person operating the shifter and have someone underneath listen and look around all over the drivetrain. It could be something really simple and dumb. Rule out the simple first.

For me the noise I believe is from differential bushing or something like that. I had thuds from neutral Goin into 1st and 2nd. Installed BMR cb005 and bk054 now I have no more thuds.

How do other manual cars halt a spinning transmission without a thud? (Forgive me, for I'm no mechanic, but I want to learn.)

They don't. There's just isn't resonating through the body
Got it. So it's mostly an isolation issue?

You're right, if enough of us would push the issue maybe Ford would do something. Like with the cooled seats which don't work properly. Of course, it is a major pain to take the car to the dealer and then hear WHAT WE HAVE ALL HEARD..."that's normal".

My dealer is having a "party" next week to tell us how wonderful they are and I'm thinking about going and insisting the service manager ride with me.

I can demonstrate this vividly. Get the car up to about 35 mph, hold the clutch in and shift rapidly back and forth between 3rd and 4th...it sounds like the car is about to explode. Somebody else try this and report back. I'm going to make a video and post it.

That's what rozay found on his
That's what I'm inclined to believe. I know it's been reported that non PP cars have the issue but it seems overwhelmingly that PP owners are the ones complaining the most. And it sure sounds like it's coming from the rear of the car to me.

After I discovered this "trait", I went by and told my sales lady about it and asked if I could drive another car to see if it did this. I took a non PP out (3.15 gears) and I could barely hear it. I don't think I would ever have noticed it otherwise and in any case it was minuscule compared to my car, total non-issue.
