What is a cradle lockout and what does it do?
YouTube bmr cradle lockout. Basically it doesn't allow all the subframe bushings to flex limiting a significant amount of movement which = wheel hop and precise road feel from the rear end

My car has only 85 miles and I have the thud problem for all of the miles of operation.
Since the car is brand new, I am granny shifting real slow, staying below 3K RPMs, and the low frequency thud noise is very noticeable. The thud resonate throughout the entire car.

I regularly get the thud in second and third gear and randomly hear it when sitting still and going into 2nd and then into 1st. (habit from the early days of no synchros in 1st). Sometimes if I go directly into first when starting, I will hear the thud as well.

I have a BMW 1600GT bike (six cylinder engine) which makes a similar thud noise going into first gear while stationary. It is due to the spinning input shaft striking the stationary rear through the direct drive shaft. There is no fix for the BMW thud. I am pretty disappointed with this thud problem with the Mustang. Ford is supposed to have finally developed better design and production integrity. This problem is a real continual annoyance.

This is the second year S550 production and the car suffers from what appeared to be an almost universal problem which Ford has NOT fixed. I have not even seen any TSB on the problem. I find this problem unacceptable. I bring the car into the dealer tomorrow morning. Will post the result of the service inspection and hopeful repair.

BTW, I did a search for Mustang thud noise while shifting and found a short article about the noise experienced by the senior automotive editor of Edmunds

I remember when I first bought my car, and I still thought Ford was the kind of company that would want to take care of its customers.

I believe the whiteline insert addresses this issue...
This fixed mine 100%

I installed it to get a better shift feel and was surprised to find the thud was gone completely.

Result of THUD issue at dealer today

I brought my new 100 mile old GT into my dealer today for the shifting THUD noise problem. After patiently explaining the problem to the the service writer, than the service advisor and finally spoke with the senior service manager. Thankfully, he was responsive and eager to do what he could to resolve the issue.
I went out on the demo drive with the manager and he heard and felt the thud noise every time I shifted. After we returned, he took out to drive two brand new GT's off the new car lot to test them for the same thud noise condition. He returned and verified that BOTH GT's exhibited the identical thud problem. He then contacted Ford via a 'hot line' and we had to wait about two hours for Ford to respond. Here is what they answered back which is remarkably similar to what Pres. Ford reportedly said to NYC back in 1975 when NYC asked Ford for assistance.

I was extremely disappointed and surprised by the outright refusal of Ford to address a long known problem in design. I have been a Ford customer for over 30 years and never believed Ford would out right refuse to make repair of a very wide spread serious problem with their famous Mustang.
I was leaving the dealership feeling very exasperated by Ford behavior. As I walked through the main showroom, the store general manager happened to see me (he knows me from past purchases) and called me over. He asked how I was liking the new GT. We talked and I explained the untenable situation I found myself in. He asked if there was anything that could be done. I explained that Steeda made polyurethane bushings that would stabilize the rear differential and greatly reduce the thud vibration and thud noise. He personally knew Steve Steeda and had provided cars to him. He asked what the cost was for the poly bushings and how long installation would take. I stated cost was about $100 and roughly 1.25 hours of labor. He said he would pay for the parts and provide the installation at no cost to me. He wanted to have the 'inside' experience and procedure to resolve this thud issue and it was worth the modest cost to gain the knowledge to do the fix.

So in conclusion, Ford has demonstrated today they will let all affected 'thud customers' down. My Ford dealer in St. Augustine in contrast, stepped up to the plate and acted in a personable, helpful and responsible manner. They proactively worked towards resolution of the thud problem. I thank the crew at Bozard Ford.
