Got my Steeda differential bushing kit installed today...and I am beyond happy!

I decided to go with the red "Street" bushings because I was afraid of NVH and I'd say the thud is 95% gone. It is at a point that I feel like if the car had come this way from the factory, I'd have never even noticed it.

Such a joy to drive now and not hear that damn noise! I really think each car must do it to a different degree and mine was particularly bad because I just can't imagine anyone accepting that sound in a car otherwise so nice.

A HUGE shout out and thanks to JewishThunder for recommending the BMR kit. I'm sure that with that kit or the Steeda aluminum bushings the sound would be 100% eliminated but I'm completely happy with it now and with the red Steeda's there is ZERO added NVH.

Don't believe those that say you'll have to live with that awful sound. You don't. ;)

Haven't tested out the wheel hop but if that's better then that's just icing on the cake!
Hello, had a question for you.

The Diff. Bushings that you installed, did you install them yourself or had it done somewhere? I do not have the tools or skills to do the work myself.

I am wondering how much you think a Ford Dealer may charge to get this installed.?

I thinking to try this as I also have this Thud Issue going on.

thnx

i wonder if making a derlin version of the rubber isolator that goes between the drive shaft and the transmission would help this?

Do you race your car often? I'm asking because I would like to know the benefit of upgrading those bushings, braces, and driveshaft on a car that'll rarely ever see the track, like mine. Did you replace those just because these new gens have softer, sloppier parts?

I don't race often but planning to do more. Basically everything I have done is to support the power i'm making now and my plans for going FI in the near future.

I installed the subframe bushings and diff bushings (black inserts) at the same time which was also about the same time I started hearing the "thud" noise. But I will say the car doesn't wheel hop anymore and if I had better tires would probably hook harder. Investment wise all the individual suspension parts are relatively affordable but if your not planning on tracking your car or making huge power you probably would be better off spending your money elsewhere. IMO

Not for just race but to tighten it up...

I'm not sure this has been mentioned or not, but I thought I would shed some light on how I no longer have the thud. The thud to me was not annoying, even though it started with only as few thousand miles on the car. I started developing a whine in the drive train, and from my experiences with setting up 9 inch rears, I thought it was either a ring and pinion or the pinion bearings.

The noise was induced when you just tap the throttle while accelerating at speeds above 40mph, as soon as you lifted it was gone. This started happening around 8000 miles. I brought it back to the dealer and they replaced every component in the rear. They found a damage spider gear and they did not like the way the ring and pinion was wearing or the way the pinion bearings looked.

I have a very good relationship with my dealer, and ask them why they did not just replace the complete center section, it would have saved them lots of time being gears are a pain to setup. They told me they were back ordered. My dealers technicians have lots of experience with setting up rears and new I was in good hands, but sometimes the rear housing can cause issues too. In any case it was all good.

I only have about 500 miles on since they rear was overhauled, but there is no more whine and the thud is gone. Not to say it will not come back after the ring and pinion get more miles on them, but I think the issue has to do with the backlash that is set from the factory. Ford calls for .008-.012 for the 8.8, I'm not sure about the super 8.8 that we have, but I'm sure its the same. I guess its possible that many rears may have been setup up on the loser side, and could cause this issue, but there are so many variables in the rear with all the components, it could be hard to pin point.

For now the rear is quite, and the thud is gone. If I have any future issues I will be sure to let everyone know.

yo ken this is not the Torsen rear though correct? EB/PP is just the standard 3.55 gears correct?

Interesting indeed Can you post any documents from the dealer for the service? Assuming you don't mind? want to be able to show the dealer something and get me a new pumpkin ! Either that or I plan to drop to 3.4x/3.5x gears anyways .

I changed all this stuff recently... and no the thud changing gears.. and putting it in gear at idle at a stop (where pretty much everything I changed does not come into play anyways) is NOT gone. Still there.

That's the hottest car porn picture I've seen in a while.

I don't see Steeda differential bushings in the picture. They seem to have eliminated my thump, after installing them (red version) along with the BMR cradle lockout that you have pictured last month, my thump is gone.

Ah man id rather not think about it :headbonk: I guess it can vary greatly depending on tools and technique .. I considered buying a pipe belt sander just to do it lol.

You are correct there's a few parts not there in the pic but I didn't do diff bushings. I didn't look into it too much but I have seen the movement in videos. While I was under there I saw how easy they would have been to install. I'll be buying them tomorrow or Monday.. Which did you go with ?

I don't have any paper work at present. I picked the car up after the dealer closed, I just told them to send me the paper work. I'm not sure it will help you though. When they took the rear apart, there was a broken spider gear. They replaced the carrier, which includes the spider gears and traction lok.

The other parts, ring and pinion and all the bearings were replaced because the rear was still making noise. They had it for a few weeks and the rear was apart twice. They were not going to give it back until they got it right.

They feel the broken spider gear caused the other components to wear prematurely, by sending material throughout the housing assembly. When I get the paper work I would be glad to send it along. I will pm you when I receive it.

I had it done by my usual mechanic. He charged $85 and said it was sort of a pain.
