has anyone gone from a mail order tune (lund etc...) to a true custom dyno tune? I am interested in hearing the differences if any.

back story: i will be in need of a tune for the stall and headers. lund wants 250 for a tune since i bought the car already tuned by them. I am 3 hrs from Ken Bjonnes so its not unreasonable for me to just drive to PBD and get a true custom dyno tune. I know back in my LS days, nothing beat a dyno tune. I assume its still the same, but just looking for confirmation on spending the extra coin.

Dyno tune. Make the drive. Don't listen to people that say email tune is the same.

I've done the email run thing. No more. Dyno tunes only from here on out.

I used to laugh at canned tunes. However with the ease of data logging via the Ngauge and Lund's willingness to revise the tune if needed I went that route.

Some would say that for drive-ability a data log from the street is better than the dyno.

I am not going to say that canned tunes are better than dyno tunes, however for those that are lightly modded I think they are a good option these days.

This is one of those deals where the guys who have a dyno tune will steer you in that direction, and those that have a canned tune will chime in on that side.

I'll just say that I couldn't be happier with Lund and that I have an appt with the dyno Sat to get my numbers and datalog the tune.

Depends on who is doing the dyno tuning. They have to have vast experience with the coyote. But Ken B has that and will get your tune solid.

I've done email tune with logging and adjustments. It seems strong and spot on.

As long as you send thorough logs and receive revisions to tweak the tune, a street tune should be more than enough to dial in the car. A dyno tune uses the same procedure.

you shouldn't need a retune for stall or headers.

you could datalog say at the track to have them check shift points, etc and see if there is some tweaking that can be done there.

but lund prepares cars to add converters in their tunes, and the rear 02s are more than likely already off so no CEL there either

Track logs will be the best info you can get. You can also do drivability logs.
If you want a faster car with the best drivability a street tune is awesome. If you are a dyno queen you always have that option.
