Magneride R vs non-R, where do the settings live? Controller? Swappable?

With firmer springs now on the car I'd like to firm up the dampers a bit, and I figure the factory R tune, if stiffer, would be a good starting point if it's not a big hassle. The DSC controller sounds fun, may go that route if I can't get the R damper settings into my non-R. Many thanks in advance.

the actual dampers are different, the valving is different between the R and non R models.

DSC does not recommend loading the R calibration into a non R setup for this reason.

Yes - the part numbers are actually different. Is one of the most commonly overlooked differences between an R and non-R. That said, perhaps the path of R dampers and DSC could yield good results. I have no idea how to optimize that tuning though - factory takes more factors into account including wheel and even tire weight...and uses a suspension dyno to prove it all out. Make you appreciate modern factory tuned suspensions and the value of OEM packages.

ive seen R dampers on eBay a few times.

Does anyone know if the 19+ dampers resemble the R more than 15-18 or are the same? Ford said they used all new hardware including the dampers so with 10% stiffer front springs and bigger roll bars Ford may have used the same dampers for 19+, but like I said they could be the same and just allow more current.

I would say yes in a way, I believe they re-turned dampers for the 19+ due them switching out the PS4S for the SC2s.

I'm going to go look at part numbers... Initially I would suspect that it's between the springs and the wheel weight so it's unknown.

Looks like for 2020, there is still a part number difference between the 350 and the 350R. What the exact changes are, if any, I don't know.

Seems like they change something. Started from 2018, it can be fitted to both base and R.
Then changed for 2020, GT350R and GT500 share the same struts. But not on GT350 base starting from 2020. Contact FP to make sure which one is which.

Thanks! That sounds familiar, must have forgotten that along the way.

And here I thought I'd have it easy.

I do love the magneride. Getting to cruise around with a very comfy ride but having a noticeable improvement at the push of a button is one of my favorite things. I'll keep the R dampers on the list of potential future mods.

So if I end up deciding I want the dampers, do I also need to source an R controller for them or something like that? Or since the dampers are stiffer, do they run on the same tune? I'm just not familiar with what's involved and would like to know the parts and $ I'm looking at to complete.

Someone might crack the code eventually but to my knowledge, you cant just swap the OEM parts and "turn on" the R setup. I think the path you'd be looking at as R springs, dampers and then work with DSC for a custom tune based on that.

The part numbers are the same through the years for the hardware on the 350...and again the same for the 350R through the years (but the 350 and R are different from eachother 100% of the time). If the screenshot you posted is from DSC, maybe they are just listing compatibility with software modules only.

I wonder if it's something as simple as the spring perch location that is the difference between R and non-R?

All I was after initially with the mods was to get rid of the understeer, so since the damper situation is not so simple and straight forward, I'm just going to leave it alone. Thanks a ton for the help!

Work with alignments - change tire compound/sizes and tap those brakes to settle :)

you dont have to use the R tune, the DSC will let you calibrate the dampers.

The only question is if there is enough adjustability to get the result youre looking for.
