A while back ago I purchased a Lund 93 octane tune for my 2020 Mustang GT. At the time I didn't have many mods done to the car but I was told that I could have them update the tune for free as long as I had a current membership. I recently had long tube headers installed on the car so I contacted Lund about updating my tune in order to maximize the gains from adding headers. I was told that there was nothing they could change on the tune for headers. The guy said that it was exhaust related and changes to the tune were not necessary. He went on to explain that my car has wide band O2 sensors and that they would make all the adjustments needed on their own. I however was under the impression that tuning changes would need to be done in order to get the most out of the addition of headers. Am I wrong or is this guy wrong?? Thanks in advance

Adjustment is not required for headers.
I know you don't have to get a tune in order to run headers but I thought you would have higher gains if you did get the car tuned after adding headers. If that's not the case then why do shops suggest getting a tune after adding them?

That'd be correct. The PCM doesn't give a rats behind about airflow after the MAF.
I'm sure the usual suspect will correct me in 3... 2...

Thank you. It just seems odd to me. I've watched countless videos of people installing headers and talking about how tuning gets you even more gains after adding them as compared to just installing them and leaving it at that

The only thing that would or could be adjusted is Transport Delay. In a nutshell it will help the o2s read more accurately since they have now been pushed further downstream away from the engine. No power gain to be had from this. The power gain is the physical headers themselves.

Some older cars had big gains by tune for the lack of adjustability in the ecu.

Nowadays ecu gets better and better, the only real thing for non e85 bolt ons would be for a catless setup, you can remove cat protection protocols which stop reducing power when you heat exhaust gas up alot which could melt cats which then the car goes rich reducing power but cooling exhaust gases

No problem. Claims of 'horsepower' gain by tuning for headers are complete bunk.
They (whoever installs it) want more $$$ ha-ha.

as @Pistol_91 correctly eluded to , transport delay is a thing, but there's a lot of header brands out there with various o2 placements, so the delays will be unique for each of them. Totally up to you to tune for it. Personally I don't think it's a big deal whether it's done or not.

Header leaks will be the big party pooper here, so make sure everything is right and tight !

You might get a few HP by adding some fuel to take advantage of the better scavenging but you would need a dyno to adjust this as every car will be different.
