Automatic owners with the Lund tune please chime in. So I've been working with Dasan at Lund at dialing in my tune particularly the throttle response. I have since realized the lurching or bucking sensation I have been feeling at low RPMs is actually the torque converter locking / unlocking. I also was seeking smoother throttle and so he dialed down the responsiveness for me.

The new tune felt a tad laggy compared my original Lund tune, which is to be expected since he dialed it down purposely upon my request. But now I rather like the responsive throttle of my original tune. Someone else on this forum once mentioned the pedal feeling softer, spongier and I think I feel that too. Comparing it with a tune that has a dialed down throttle, I think I much prefer it the way it was.

That's got me thinking now about my shift pressure, particularly the 1-2 shift. At WOT it's crazy and the ECU will interfere and cut power as the tires break loose. Only with all the nannies off can I actually do that. I like to use the paddle shifters and use them all the time. But once you can control that 1-2 shift at half throttle to WOT it is fun I have to say. I drifting around a corner squealing tires like crazy and it was hella fun. But I wouldn't do this all the time and so now I am ready for that hard 1-2 shift if it comes to that. And I am aware that the car can get out of shape in a hurry if not careful.

For those of you with the auto and the Lund tune, do you like the hard shifts? Because I think I do, it's very direct and makes the transmission come alive. But I could see in a performance or hard driving situation, I could see how it could be little wild. With stock tires I could not control it at all. With these Firestone tires I can actually control it now. Better wider tires would improve things a lot more IMO.

And obviously shifting in a turn is not a good idea because it throws the chassis off balance. But this 1st gear is so short, a shift to 2nd is sometimes necessary.

I'm just looking for opinions on how guys like their shifts to be and why so I can find out what works and what doesn't.

Personally I love the firm shifts of my auto with Lund. Makes it feel like a whole different transmission.

However it shouldnt shift hard all the time. Mine only shifts hard at WOT. It shifts progressively softer the less throttle you give it. Just put-putting around it shifts near stock softness.

Also, you can ask them to soften the shifts. Before I did my suspension upgrades the firm shifts upset the car alot and caused some major fishtailing. They made me a tune with softer shifts. Once I did my suspension upgrades I went back to the normal firm shifts and it handles perfectly.

Strange that your having throttle issues. Occasionally with Procharger people (and I) get some surging/bucking issues, but they are usually ironed out anyway. Odd to be seeing that with a N/A car. Ask them about the torque management, that is what they changed in my tune I believe to stop the bucking/surging I had initially.

It's one thing about my Steeda tune that I don't like the shifts even at wot and set to max firmness is just a not a very firm shift. Does the Lund tune offer free retunes for future modifications that you might do?

Free retunes for three months, after that it's $50. But YMMV, some people are asked to pay others aren't.

Have you contacted Matt & asked him to look at your tune & possibly adjust?

Let me know if I can help assist.

Best Regards,

TJ

I did not realize you could adjust it to a firmer stiffness with the tuner set to Max so I will do that I appreciate the reply thank you

It is worth a shot - I can't speak to their capabilities but he may know something.

My first tune with lund the shifts were hard. It didnt matter if i was WOT or putting around. In the end all i wanted was the power so i have the stock shift points and firmness. I daily my car and do a few autox runs and strip runs a year and i prefer a smooth stable shift over on that upsets the car. But thats me.
