Cruising down the highway and all of sudden steering became really heavy I looked down and saw nothing, all electrical power was gone strangely enough the engine was still running. I would occasionally see the power blink on and off I could see that the engine temp oil temp and oil pressure all within normal limits so since the engine was still running and not overheating I just kept driving but no power steering and minimal brakes. From time to time the power would flicker back on and the D I C would throw all kinds of warnings. I successfully limped the car to a local Ford dealership about 4 miles away and hopped in an Uber to get to the airport so I can make my flight. WTF ford.

Only mod is a resonator delete.

Resonator delete caused the electrical issue.

Warranty void...

Omg I'll burn that dealership to the ground lol. I suspect some loose connection somewhere in the wiring harness. Had the charge side harness changed out under warranty about 3 months ago at Bartow Ford in FL. FFS please dont get your car serviced at that place I have had nothing but problems from them.

I'd say that was it then... why did they change the harness?

So they start the car this morning and say oh no it drove perfectly for us.... fucking bullshit. They changed the charge side harness because of an intermittent charging issue which happened with a car. There was some loose connection in the harness that caused a DIC fault even though the car charged properly

So that’s the extent of their testing? Start it up and see if it happens??
I can look it up in the Helm tonight if you want.

I'm guessing you don't have Forscan setup for the car do you? There may be some soft codes that would give some indication as to what went on. The car can run without battery power after it's been started, but it tends to have a very erratic behavior without the load balancing from the battery. I'm curious if at some point the car lost the battery power or connection and was just running off the alternator.

I've heard of something like this happening due to a fuse backing out or the actual fused link being very week. Would need a wiring diagram to reverse what turned off and where it gets its power/signal and then check that fuse.

So they reproduced the problem and the car threw a ton of codes. They suspect a loose connection and are looking for that. If they cant isolate the issue they plan to call in the Ford field engineer.

They found out that the alternator was overcharging the electrical system so they replaced the alternator. Then they figured out that there was a broken Connection in the wiring harness between the alternator and the harness which was causing intermittent ground issues. They replaced the broken connector and everything seems to be working correctly. I'll pick the car up tomorrow.

Awesome! Congratulations!! I hope this is the permanent fix for you!

It might be helpful to add "Solved" to your thread title once you're confident this is the fix.
