My 2019R is a 920A car, but it definitely has carpet in the trunk. When did they add it back to the base package?

They're the bump stops that the adjustable rubber bumpers in the trunk lid hit when the lid is closed - i.e., used to adjust the lid and provide some further support.

In the electronics equipped R and pretty much all other Mustangs, the rubber bumpers in the trunk lid come down on top of a plastic trim panel that spans the rear of the trunk and has that little hinged access for the latch area.

Since I pulled all of that out of the Mule, I was looking for an easy way to have the rubber bumpers have a landing point - looks like it ain't going to be with those bespoke R parts, so a bit of fabrication ingenuity will have to fill the void.

I'll have to have a look when I get home in a few days. Never noticed it.

Yea I was looking to do the same thing. But I was not spending $400 for trunk lid bumpers. So I made my own out of a spare plastic deck lid. That’s only $100 :)

I took the plastic lid and cut down all the parts around where the trunk lid touches and then clipped them in and glued it within some body trim adhesive ;)
