Bought a 2016 brand new and have never pulled the trigger on a tune, even though I’ve been browsing for years with Lund and Ford Performance.

I modded a 4.6 2v years ago and it was more of a headache. And plus I bought my ecoboost from a dealership with a lifetime engine warranty.

Whipple has a tune and intercooler package that is appealing. High quality reputation and parts. Likely better performance than Ford Performance and adds the intercooler for lower temps.

What do you guys think?

From my short time owning an EB I’ve not seen anyone talk about Whipple. The prevailing thought seems to be CV Fab for the best prices on IC and piping, and a Ryan Martin tune.

With a lifetime engine warranty would not tune it at all. Garrett IC new plugs every year and premium fuel. Maybe a Ford tune at Ford dealer if it exists.

It's just not worth losing the engine warranty.

If anything after the IC change to 3:55...make a difference.

I have the Performance Pack so I think it has 3:55. Always used premium since day 1.

Might call the dealership and see if they’ll accept the Ford Performance tune.

It’s stock so I like the cookie cutter idea of Whipple selling one tried and tested tune.

Tuning was the worst issue with my last modded car. So Ryan might be amazing but I’m done with custom tunes from all the Billybobs.

I have never heard anything about the whipple IC/RTD tuner before now and have been on the mustangecoboost.net forum for over 2 years so you would be the first to give them a try. I have the FP tune in my 2020 non PP/HPP and it includes a trans tune as well. Since your stang is a 2016 you don't need ford to install the FP tune since your 3/36 warranty has long since expired. You can do the FP tune yourself on your own laptop and not have to play the waiting game for whipple to get your PCM info and send you their tune back to you.

My car runs much better than it did on stock calibration for sure and shifts very smooth also. My only complaint with the FP tune for my 2020 or any 18+ ecoboost is that ford chose to not allow me to return to stock cal except for a dealer only reflash for a fee. 15-17 ecos do have the ability to return to stock cal by owner at your choosing as long as you have the program on your laptop.

Plus, the FP tune will compensate for bolt on mods versus whipple stating it does not except for cat back exhaust. Of course, anything besides a cat back or free flow air filter will possibly cause an issue with EPA testing if you do not live in a free state.

Just my .02 cents worth.
