In readiness for the dark nights drawing and lockdown 2.0, I bought a ‘coffee table’ book which I’m loving and I’d like to recommend to you - see pics..

It’s kinda like a history of the development of sporting Fords written by a guy who was part of that team

there is a little S550 content, but it focuses on 70s and 80s fords from the magical AVO and SVE teams

From the thread on owners ages, Im guessing there’s a lot of love here for Capris and Escorts which feature heavily in the book

its pricey but where else can you find this info, it’s easy reading - not full of techy jargon, and beautifully illustrated with photos of the clay models, stylist sketches etc.

happy reading

I've been sitting on this book for some time, it contains technical specs as well as the Ford story.
Graham, thanks for the recommendation. I've just received it, and it's very nice indeed. Lots of pictures of Mustang variations I never knew existed. I'm just a few pages into it and have already learned new things.
But boy, is it big and heavy! I wasn't expecting that.
Mind you, it must be big to cover such an extensive and fruitful history. :)

That's the difference between a company that's building cars out of passion, because they want to make cars, because they love cars, and one that has taken up car building just as a means to make money. You'll never see this level of attention and passion in a Korean cheapo.

Maybe, but build quality isn't everything. You will find better 'quality' in supermarket vegetables - consistent size, perfect colour and shine, perfect smoothness, no blemishes whatsoever - than in home grown ones, but I know which ones taste better. :)

Back to boredom, the documentary/film ‘a faster horse’ covers S550 development and is well worth a watch.

If you ever wondered how a new car is developed, this shows you the process, but on your favourite ride. Working in that sector, I can assure you it’s pretty generic process and so it’s pretty accurate.

it mixes in some cheesy mustang history, but hey I can happily watch Stangs all day:)

I saw it on Netflix years ago but it seems relegated to streaming from those tax crooks at Amazon or an imported DVD

I've been using the lockdown and having the car off the road to get work done:

Installed Barton short shifter.
Installed Diode Dynamics interior and reversing LED bulbs and SS3 LED fog lights.
Front and rear bumpers resprayed, scratches removed and entire body work polished.
Mishimoto oil cooler still on back order, been waiting 11 weeks so far.
Currently installing Dynamat and Dynaliner insulation

Are you aware of the Kia Stinger ?

Sorry don't agree. Build quality is very important. badly built cars don't taste better, they leave a bad taste in your mouth. No need for any car to be built badly.

Yes, it is important, but not as a goal in and of itself. I didn't say it wasn't important at all, I just said it wasn't everything.
My Mustang, despite its screeching driver's window, buzz in the driver's door (or is it in the A pillar? I can't tell), or less than perfectly aligned bonnet, leaves a great taste in my mouth. Which I couldn't tell about a perfectly built Kia. I can fix buzzes and rattles and screeches (or even live with them for that matter), but I can't fix ugliness and boredom.
