This is exactly right. 99.9% of what dealership mechanics see is routine maintenance. It is unrealistic to think that someone can drive in fresh off the race track and ask the mechanic to render an informed opinion as to the condition of the trans and diff fluids.

But yet they said the fluids are fine when they could have charged me money to change them.

As an added preventive measure to deter heat soak or thermal transfer (since cats are adjacent to the trans).... maybe something like this will be introduced for the GT350 line. Not just applicable for Techs and Base models neither.

I like this idea, if heat transfer from the cats are truly the problem. Are there any adverse effects like overheating the cats?

I think that Corvette heat shield would work on any car as long as the dimensions of the cat are similar. Who wants to test a Corvette heat shield in their Shelby? What are the dimensions of the Shelby cats?

A heat shield would definitely help reduce heat transferring from the cats to the transmission. The style that wraps around the converter could make the catalytic converter run hot, though. It will definitely raise the temperatures inside the catalytic converter. Whether that will cause a problem or not - I have no idea.

I am really hoping there will be a "Ford approved" solution so we don't have to guess. I don't want to risk having some other problem down the line.

That was also my question in my head... would the shield adversely affect the cats?? As you guys are aware, that's alot alot of heat flanking the trans body. And as previously mentiomed a trans air scoop may also help I would think.

Since last July, I have used this custom made heat shield w/ DEI heat reflector on my Z06.... I think it helped a bit as I saw Oil temps drop 3-5 degrees before and after. So this is another possibility... a pair of heat shields for the GT350's trans body to be shielded from the cats. Just throwing ideas out there....

My preference would be for a 1/2 circle metal shield with a insulated standoff to the cat. Preferably allowing airflow on both sides of it, so the cat gets some cooling from the airflow on the heatshield side. Keeps the airflow over the transmission. So comparable to your Z06 setup, but making a C around each cat instead.

Since you have the coolers, I'm betting you would see less thermal issues from any insulation between the cats and the transmission, but the people without external coolers really need to keep the airflow over as much of the transmission as possible.

Edit: Wish there was room to move the cats to where the flex joint is, but those would be some worthless cats at a size that would fit.

I think this is EXACTLY what we need. The fact that it does does not completely envelop the cat reduces the likelihood of overheating. By federal law cats must last 8 years/80,000 miles. In the extremely unlikely event that the cats do overheat and fail I would simply remove the shields and take it to the dealer.

When installing an oil cooler on this transmission, use the drain hole for your pump supply and the fill hole as your return.

I also have a distributor “Hanlon Motorsports 610-469-2695” that has an oil cooler kit for this application.

Once again I'm just curious, no hidden "intent" here........if Ford would have said from the start that 'if you intend to track the car at all, you need to order the track pack', would some/many/most ? of the people that ordered tech pack cars had given up the seats, the Nav, the radio, etc. and gone ahead and got the Track Pack?

Most likely would have ordered the Tech Pack with the intention of upgrading what is needed to track the car effectively.
