I've had a race deck floor in one of my garages for over 10 years and it is holding up great. I see all of your other questions were answered. It is not hard at all to put down in almost any pattern you would like.

Is Race Deck really durable and worth the cost? Iā€˜m in the process of having my garage re-epoxied by the builder, so that it finally matches. Two coats of oil based clear coat still have to be applied over the next two days. The problem is, while it looks good, itā€™s not the best epoxy job (in terms of durability). I learned this from the painter, who told me that the builder was cheap and didnā€™t want to pay for him to perform a diamond grind floor prep service, therefore, they just etch the floor with muriatic acid and power wash it. The epoxy coating didnā€™t hold up very well the first two times (they did half of the floor at a time, so that I could shift tool boxes and other things from side to side). The colors also didnā€™t match and tire tracks were visible within a very short time.

Iā€™m wondering how Race Deck would look around my motorcycle lift pit which has been trimmed out with a stainless steel insert? Would it be best to stop it 2-3ā€ short around the perimeter of the insert and put finished edging around it? How about trimming out around thr columns of a 2 post lift? Better to install the lift and then trim out around the columns?

If it were me, I would get the usage out of the Epoxy and when it inevitably fails, then simply cover it up with Race Deck.

I did just that at the end of last year, although I used Swisstrax -

No grinding or sanding, no meticulous cleaning, no curing times. As simple as laying the tiles and covering it all up. No regrets whatsoever!

A couple of additions over the last few weeks -

Another supersized cabinet, separating my detailing tools/bulk chemicals and general workshop tools.

Today I assembled another roll cabinet to provide a home for a new tool chest and better sort a variety of other tools -

Still a bit of fine tuning to do, but I'm happy with this corner of the garage now.

Next: Improving my compressed air system.

Great info. and suggestions from everyone! Iā€™d like AC and a 2 post lift too, so that I can work comfortably out there at anytime. I guess Iā€™ll just have to prioritize (AC, lift and flooring upgrades). Man, I sure wish money grew on trees, so I could pull bags at random whenever I wanted to, lol.

@Bdubbs, I love that huge detached shop you have (and all the cars too)! It oooks like thereā€™s plenty of room in there for you to stretch out and enjoy your hobby.

Do you get to take them all out regularly? They all look to be roadworthy.
Not as much as we should. They all can be driven. It actually gets a little overwhelming having this many. We also have a 90 7 up edition vert that's at the house garage for the summer. Within a year we have bought 4 mustangs. Prior we just had the 03 cobra and 90 coupe.

damn, some of these garages are amazing (as are the cars in them) - garages in the UK are teeny tiny totie in comparison!

Well, I had to make a decision on what to do in the garage. I figured since the builder had/has me with my back against the wall with finishing up major repairs (water intrusion into the garage on a brand new house), I might as well make a couple of upgrades while itā€™s still empty. The painter had to halt the epoxy process after step 2 of 4 in the epoxy process because the water caused it to blister. Painter is scheduled for next week to come back and sand everything back down and start the epoxy process all over again.

With all of that being said, I decided to add AC in the form of a mini split. Thereā€™s just no way I could withstand 95+ degree heat out there in that microwave any longer. I am also ready to order my 2 post lift, but need to wait until the floor gets coated because if it gets delivered fast, there will be nowhere for me to store it. Iā€™ll finish up the two 220V circuits for the AC and lift today (just need to pull the 12/2 and 10/3 wire through the electrical panel and make the connections and Iā€™ll be done with that part. The lift will plug into the outlet in the that I installed in the ceiling.

I was wondering if someone with a 2 post lift could take some good measurements for me (with their garage closed) from the garage door to the front of the posts and from the rear of the posts to the nearest object (tool chest etc.) that is behind it?

Just to put things into perspective, in the last 4 days, a concrete dap-out had to be poured in front of both garage doors and 3/4 of the pavers had to be taken up, the ground regraded and the pavers reinstalled. What a nightmare this had been and yeah, Iā€™ve been beyond pissed about all of it for a long while. Itā€™s been really hard to keep a cool head during all of this, but I know thatā€™s whatā€™s needed in order to make good progress. Notice the little bottle of Fireball. It appears that one or more of the paver guys was/were drinking on the job. I went out to check on progress while they were away at lunch and noticed the liquor bottle at the ready. SMDH

One other thing I forgot to ask was, what is everyone doing for insulation in the attic space above their garage? I dont have anything up there now, except radiant barrier material on the bottom side of the roof decking. I do have R18 insulated garage doors, somIā€™ve gotten a little jump on that part of insulating.

That led lighting makes a world of difference! It gets rid of the doom and gloom and makes you want to work out there for extended periods.

What is the car sitting on there, a rotisserie or a mobile cart? My brother is looking for something like that for his 98 Cobra project. Can you tell me more about it? What does it allow you to do and can the car stay bolted to it and pulled onto a trailer to be taken to a body shop? Thanks

that's our 68 fastback project....we bought the rotisserie from eastwood...think it was around $1,000. it works out great. we can turn it 90 degrees to easily work on bottom. it easily fits in enclosed trailer and we also winched it on a flatbed when we sent it to body shop for new quarters to be installed. car stays bolted on it
