Currently on RE71R's square and they are pretty easy to manage temp wise. However i have some RS4's sitting in my office closet to go on next. I drive to and from the track as well.

Had a track day Saturday with a new set of 305/30-19 Supercar 3's and 19x11 Apex SM-10s. It was my first time running a tire other than Pilot Super Sports. I had a previous best of 1:57.6 at The Ridge Motorsports Park and ended up with a 1:55.2 before having to go home early for drive mode issues. Just about to test drive the car and if everything is good I'll be back on track tomorrow afternoon. There is definitely more time to be had with these tires!

Me?

Here's a link to a 1:55.3 from the same day. Video and data is a little out of sync - still learning to use Race Render.

I have no idea to make the video or pictures smaller...

  1. Just finished my 4th track day (7 thirty min sessions today!) on the Porsche spec 102y fronts. I’m totally blown away how well it held up to the 98y. Compare this to my prior pic after only 3 days on 98y. Usually the 98y will chord for me after 4, and one time after 3 long days. I am confident the 102y will last 7 days to fully heat cycle out Without chording and without need to rotate! Maybe it’s not technically as fast with the larger grooves, and it is more $$, but It sure does hold up better.

  2. on a related note, this was my 7th day on the rear tires and they are now heat cycled out and quite greasy with a loose rear end.

The 102y tire in driver front position (did not even rotate and driver front takes by far most punishment on track!) made it to mid 8th track day before very slight chording on the far outside (despite -2.9 camber which had been chording the 98y tires more frequently on the inside and middle). I bet it would easily avoid chording 10 days if rotated fronts after 5 days, but not sure about heat cycle issues past 8 days. Grip was great and this is just a way more robust tire in my experience as I continue to chord my back supply of 98y fronts in 4 days even with rotating after 2.

Did you notice any handling differences between the 98Y and 102Y?

I really didn’t. And if there was any difference it’s way less than the difference in grip after 4 track day’s on the tires anyway, so don’t expect like new tire handling after 5 days on tires regardless.

That is sort of what I was getting at. If the 102Y's last longer, that's great from an economy perspective. However, if there is a significant drop off after 5+ sessions, I'm wondering if the longevity is worth it. I guess that is sort of difficult to quantify though. You ran the tires for 8 sessions without any internal red flags so I'm assuming they were "good enough" as far as grip goes for sessions 5-8.

Have to draw a line on performance vs $ somewhere, or we wouldn’t even be taking about Cup 2 and would be running Hoosiers for 1-2 days and then replacing with new. The 102y are more expensive though, so you need to do more sessions to get your $ out also

I ran the Porsche spec 102Y front as well with -2.5 camber, and yes the very outside edge is the weakest point, mine looks like yours as well. As soon as I can see the cord I change them.
talked to the tire shop guy at the track he said to add more camber.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but I read the whole thing and didn't really find what I was looking for so here goes.
2019 GT350 just bought it in March going to track it 1st time in June.
It came with GY SC3 on it. I loved the SC 2 on my old 1LE so I didn't really think twice about it till I picked up an nail and patched one of them. Not wanting to track it on a patched tire I plugged in the tire sizes at tire rack and found out these are not the OEM sizes
I have 325/30 19 on the rear and 295/30 19 on the front. No idea if these are the original wheels but they say Ford in the center so I guess yes?
I wasn't able to find any posts from people tracking the SC 3 with this setup. It seems to handle great on the twisty mountain roads but I'm well aware spirited road driving is not track driving. (have track experience)
Has anyone tried the set up on this car with these tires? I literally can't find the OE FP PSC2 tires anywhere in stock and I can actually get what's on there now so, what's everyone think?

I’ve run the GY SC3’s about 8 track days on same car, OE wheels but slightly narrower size on the rear. The tires are a great dual-use choice. They’re fast, consistent and wear really well if you dial in some negative camber. I have a second set of wheels so I’m trying other tires but the SC3s are great.

You think that aggressive rear size may create some undesirable understeer?

GT350s and Mustangs in general do tend to understeer - just like every other car on the road. I would assume it would understeer a little more with bigger rear tires. Some road race guys swear by square setups for Mustangs. I don't mind some understeer. I think it's safe and I like safety, especially if I'm on a faster track.

I'm running 325 square SC3s for track days and very happy with them thus far 16 heat cycles in.
