Living in the Southeast, I have to wonder what happens if you're running this tune and can only get 87 octane? Will the computer still be able to throttle back the performance to protect the motor or do you just drive like there's an egg under your foot and pray you don't break something?
I'm sure it will be fine. I would trust a Ford tune with low octane fuel more than I would other tunes, because Ford has to warranty the thing.

That's logical, but they also specify that you have to use 91 or better. That's their CYA in action. If there's a way they can prove the damage had to be caused by inferior fuel, they could deny a claim.
Considering that the stock tune can run on anything from 87 up and automatically dial back the power for the lower octane rating, I would hope they could find a way to alter just the high octane part of the tune.
I hope, but I don't count on it.

Why would you even risk that? I'm sure there are safety strategies in place to deal with the occasional bad tank of fuel, but to intentionally put 87 octane on a hot tune that requires 91 or better is just asking for trouble IMHO. :headbonk:

That's a good question... the other question that comes to mind is if it is possible to flash it back to stock if you know that you can't get good fuel for a while. But, even in ATL with the pipeline break, there is plenty of fuel at all the stations around me.

You obviously didn't see my last post. I'm not choosing to use it; it's all that's available, assuming you can find that.

Niiice Thank you
I looked at that site and the price is 506 + 87 for shipping. Thats why it is listed as so cheap lol shipping isnt included in the price. CJPP has it for 599 (shipping is already included) and use the code SAVE5 for 5% off. My total was 567 from CJPP.

Must have missed that... oops! I would definitely hold off installing until the proper fuel to run it becomes available though. It would completely defeat the purpose of the tune anyway and potentially put your engine at unnecessary risk of damage.

Also a good question. The pictures I've seen so far look like they include something to connect to a laptop to allow the purchaser to install the update, but those may be other similar products, not necessarily this one.

That is actually funny... nothing like a low price to bait those suckers in...

While on vacation I was running on about empty... found one darn gas station and it had bags on all handles but 87... yea an old station as well. But it was all I had available.

Uleashed said don't worry about running 87, just don't give it any boost and drive slow. Looking back on it, guess I could have took 10 minutes and flashed it to stock.

Can't wait to see what people think of this tune... the local dealer never did call me back with a price.

Then we get the honest deals. He's not taking orders until the ETA is confirmed instead of estimated.

I’ll actually do it for $484 plus shipping, depending on your address the shipping could be as low as $10.00

I deal with Steve a lot and him/Tasca have ALWAYS been a pleasure to deal with. Steve always has awesome pricing and his customer service is hard to beat. I really like CJPP, but you cannot beat the deal from Tasca.

There's more to it than that. One of the reasons Ford Racing created the tune is so that you can easily change your rear end ratio...so it's a little more than a canned tune  Whether or not you get a cool plug in and can change stuff on the fly like many other tunes, I don't know...

We weren't really thinking in terms of changing things on the fly; just being able to revert to stock in case of gasoline problems.
