Lacking motivation?

Anyone here ever get burnt out on wanting to install your own mods? I have a medical issue that I’m about to have to get surgery for, plus I’ve had 5 other surgeries in the past 3.5 years.

For instance, I know the MGW is the best shifter for these cars but the install is a bit time consuming and somewhat of a pain, but it’ll be worth it. On the flip side, I’m thinking that a Steeda/Barton mount and replacing the just the handle would be fine since I don’t track the car, but I know if I shortcut it, I’ll regret it.

All advice and opinions are welcome.

Yeah. Getting started is always hard for me, but once I do I work until either my body is broken, or I'm finished with the job.

I haven't done an MGW install, but I would dread it too from what I've read on here. Fiddly installs are the worst. Then there's always the "oh no" aspect that pops up from time to time. Broken bolts, unexpected defect in your new parts, etc. Always a mystery doing a job, lol. When I installed my PP radiator, the lower hose clamp ear snapped clean off when I tried to remove it. Never seen that in my years of wrenching, and it's especially unexpected on a brand new car. None of the other ones had that happen, so I guess I just got unlucky with some bad steel. Ended up having to cut it off since there wasn't enough left to grab on to to get it spread open.

luckily with MGW, you know you’re getting high quality components. I’ve done two other race spec installs and it wasn’t bad but a lift would be more helpful, lol.

Yeah, I always start with the intention of giving myself at least 8 hours because like you said, you don’t know what could go wrong.

There is nothing wrong with driving a mostly stock car. The shift linkage isn’t even a problem compared to the horrible gear ratios and 5999 lb flywheel.

I didn’t buy this car to make primarily a race car, I bought because I missed shifting gears and actually driving the car.
Maybe it’s because I feel like crap right now but hopefully it’ll change after the surgery.
Id like the car to be at least full bolt on with some suspension to aid in daily driving capability.

Do you have a mechanically inclined buddy? Someone to help with the more difficult aspects of the install. Get together on a Saturday afternoon and he gets to take a case of beer home for his services.

I love working on my own car and it doesn’t matter how long it takes to install even one little part. But I will not work on any car if there is a time limit. Take my time and if I just don’t want to work on it then I don’t. When I feel it I work on it some more

Unfortunately I’m the mechanically inclined buddy they come to for help, lol.

Based on installing the Steeda shifter mount, installing a proper shifter would be a bastard.

That said, the Steeda mount combined with BG trans oil fixed what I didn't like about my '15. However, a MGW would take it to another level....

Yeah, I installed one on a 2014 Mustang GT about 4 years ago, and on a 2015 Mustang GT about 6.5 years ago. I love them and have had them on my mustangs and corvettes, I just don’t know how worth of a headache it’ll be since I don’t track the car.

There was a time in my life that having someone else do my mods (as long as I was fit, able and technically competent) was not an option. Now that I have 6 decades under my belt.....I think differently
I was looking at the same mod or the one Hurst has available. My back is not what it once was so crawling around under the stang is limited. If you can find a good mod shop near you that does quality work, let them do it....as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Save your health for driving your stang and enjoy it!

I’ve come to realize I dislike doing any job that deals with fluids.

I look forward to installing modifications still. Regular repair work, depends on what it is. I like learning and accomplishing installs I haven’t done before.
